Your city's top 20-30 developments for 2007

They can be massive developments, like Chicago's LSE or the World Trade Center redevelopment or they can be skyscrapers, like Nashville's Signature Tower.
Smaller cities/metros too. If you want to include interesting suburban developments thats fine.

20 is too much to name.

For Orange County:

1)OC Great Park. New York landscape architect Ken Smith + Spanish architect Enrique Norton + Angeleno Mia Lehrer. 5000 acre project. Multibillion investment. The design is genius.

True, 20 is alot. Doesnt Anaheim have the Platinum Triangle u.c and developments downtown? Its seems 2007 will be very busy year for urban/highrise developments in O.C. Irvine, Costa Mesa, Santa Ana.

San Francisco will never have 20-30 developments, ever. In a built environment filled with the original NIMBY seedlings, development will never be easy. There are easily 20 or 30 Bay Area wide, but we don't care about the rest of the bay area

The 2007 opening of the T-Line (third street rail) will be the biggest development for decades on the east side of the city. The Transbay Project won't break ground for at least another year, but the final design will be released in August of this year. Ditto for the First & Mission project proposed in December. Everyone here is waiting for Renzo Piano's renderings of the slender, 1,200 foot towers resembling "bamboo."

Hopefully ground will also break on the Trinity Plaza (1,900 apartments) at 8th and Market, anything to help drive mid-market development and clean up has to be a major development.

For Calgary, number 1 is obvious.

1) The Bow - 59 stories, 249m (810'); designed by Foster & Partners, constructin expected to begin by the summer. Pricetag: ~CDN$1 billion.

There are a few other major developments likely to begin this year. Here's a couple of the big ones.

Jaimeson Place - 38 stories, 158m to roof, 173m to spire. Demolition on site has begun, groundbreaking should happen by spring.
Arriva 42 - Alberta's tallest residential tower (42 stories, 160m)

Of those currently official, most of the developments in Oklahoma City are not so much single buildings but complete neighborhood overhauls, and so:

1. Midtown Renaissance projects by Greg Banta- he owns 30+ properties in Midtown, and he's renovating all of them into retail, office space, and lofts. Numerous other residential projects mean at least 500 units will be added to Midtown over the next year, not to mention some really cool local restaurants, bars, and retail establishments.

2. The Triangle- ongoing development in the Triangle will see over 700 residential units, HQ of a new MBA program by a local university, some potential highrises, and several neighborhood service businesses, like grocery and pharmacy, allowing more convenient inner city life.

3. New Elementary School- soon a new elementary school will be built to serve the growing population of families downtown.

4. I-40 Relocation and Riverside Neighborhood- About 500 acres will be added to the area we define as "downtown"- many of these acres are currently undeveloped, and will offer incredible potential to expand the urban environment.

5. Move-ins for downtown housing projects: We'll start to see more and more people moving in as downtown projects from last year are completed. 300 Legacy Summit units and 150 Park Harvey units will be the most notable concentration of new residents in the Arts District area.

6. Suburban Developments- Village at Quail Springs, 250 acre urban community on the far north side; Covell and I-35 Mixed Use in Edmond, with over 1.2 million sf of retail and a 10 story hotel/convention center.

7. Future of Kerr-McGee Tower- now that Kerr-McGee has been bought out by a Houston company, what will happen to the million-sf, 30-story tower?

LA has that one thing it's betting on: The Grand Avenue Project. It would probably go nowhere. The LA Live has a much better chance of being completed because everyone including the city has moved the money for the projects. I have a feeling that the next biggest development will be the renovation of the Beverly Center and the opening of the 20th to 39th Pinkberry. Sad isn't it?

Smaller cities/metros too ?

Here's a few:

* $125-million Midtown Village mixed-use project opens later this year

* $100-million residential upgrade of the northwest
corner of the University of Alabama campus (part opens in 2007, the remainder in 2008). $75-million +- UA science/engineering building to begin construction

* Construction will begin this year on 3-story annex to City Hall & city hopes to finish all property acquisition for the adjacent Downtown Renewal District by the end of the year. In a few years, the district will be anchored by a new Federal office building.

* City *hopes* to land a commitment from a developer this year
for a downtown convention hotel (hopefully in the $50-million range)

* Several urban condo projects have been on hold because of slow presales (Riverwalk Place, 2300 Bryant Drive, Metalworks - all downtown). Hopefully, those will get on track.

Miami in no particular order off the top of my head. I have no idea if all of these will be breaking ground in 2007, but they'll definitely be talked about. Some are being finished or already under construction, but their opening will have a big impact in 2007.

1 Continued expansion of MIA
2 Miami Intermodal Center
3 MIC Metrorail expansion
4 Met Miami (Met1,2,3,Square)
5 continued construction of Midtown Miami
6 completion of Riverfront Parcel (mint, ivy, wind)
7 Icon
8 Capital on Brickell
9 Omni Mall redevelopment
10 redredging the port of Miami
11 dredging the Miami River
12 Watson Island development/Island Gardens (Marina, Shangri-la, etc)
13 Infinity I and II
14 500 Brickell
15 new Marlin's Ballbark (doubtful, but hoped for)
16 1450 Brickell
17 Plaza on Brickell
18 Villa Magna
19 Musuem Park
20 Paramount Bay
21 Spanish Village (Coral Gables)
22 Marquis
23 5th and Alton
24 600 Biscayne
25 New World Symphony expansion (Ghery)
26 Epic
27 The whole city of Sunny Isles
28 One Biscayne Plaza (?)
29 Pace Park area completions (Quantum, 1800 Club, Opera)
20 Riverwalk and Baywalk greenway

Would've been a lot nicer if the land was being developed into El Toro International Airport

The biggest in Houston is easily the BLVD Place development in Uptown. Will include 500,000 square feet of retail space (including a 100,000 square foot Whole Foods Market), 800 high rise condos, a 225 room luxury hotel, and 120,000 square feet of office space. Will replace a small strip center with surface parking on the corner of San Felipe @ Post Oak Blvd.

existing

coming in 2009

20 to 30? If i did that for Ithaca I'd have to include the Smith family building a new shed in their back yard.

1. Gateway phase 2 - 6 story hi-end apartment building in downtown.

2. Cayuga Green phase 2 - 5 story apartment building with 1st floor retail downtown.

3. Green Street Garage - major renovation/reconfiguration of parking garage downtown to make way for Cayuga Green phase 2.

New downtown library (to be built on site of old one)
New big-box development on 52nd Ave. South
Two new hotels along I-94 east of 45th Street
Two new research/tech buildings at NDSU's Research/Technology Park (currently under construction)
NDSU Wellness Center expansion/addition
New office park along 42nd Street South in Anderson Park neighbourhood
