Exquisite and beautiful Coral Gables, Florida...the home tour
Another day...another tour. Today I headed back to Coral Gables. This tour is all about private homes...and a pool. These are the gems of Coral Gables. Most of these homes were built in the 1920's, some are older. Once again my friends...enjoy.
This one was built in 1910. It has been condemned because part of the rear collapsed. Although, there is a major push by a preservation society to have it rebuilt.
This is Coral Gables, the namesake of the city...the home of Coral Gables' developer, George Merrick. The home was built in 1906 by his father, Solomon Greasley Merrick, who bought the land in 1899 for $1,100. It was part of a 160 acre plantation. In 1921 Merrick divided out plots of the 160 acres and sold them off...thus the birth of Coral Gables. The city was incorporated in 1925.
Now we move to the area known as the Chinese Village area of Coral Gables.
Pretty shots of the Gables! I love the place... I went to UM and lived in a couple of houses there... though they were not quite as nice as the ones pictured here. Thanks for the tour, it brings back good memories
one thing I liekd about Florida was the use of coral stone everywhere as adornment. It apparently is usually thought of as trash stone to be disposed of, since there's so much of it, but it looks just like travertine.
Great pics, got any of the shopping center?
