I like the US Bank Tower, but as boyinthecity said, they shouldn't be compared until Salesforce is finished. There are a lot of details we can't see, or perhaps fully appreciate, from the renderings alone. I think the corner treatments are a good example. We're just starting to see how the "fading" of the shades will look.

I've long wished that LA didn't allow signage on top of its buildings--it's tacky and detracts from towers.

The problem I found I'm now having with Salesforce is it looks like it might be too pretty of tower than I would prefer, like a woman in her wedding dress.

SF skyline from the northwest - a different perspective. SF Tower looms just as large as 555 California, even though it is several blocks further in the distance.

No, that was the Library Tower. Now it's the U.S. Bank Tower.

View from 101 in Marin

Sorry for the poor quality, this was taken from a bus stuck in traffic this morning, but it does show the stature on the skyline. Transamerica on the left, Salesforce in the center and 555 Cal on the right.

Lol. I can't figure out where this was taken from. I must be mistaken but since when did the Bay Area have a bus that could float on the bay?

This photo is from almost the exact same angle, but higher up in the Marin headlands. Not to beat a dead horse, but if you zoom the oxblue webcam and scale the core, it is pretty obvious that the inner forms and rebar placed today on the south corner are for the 58th floor, making Salesforce now taller than TransAmerica. While rebar is undoubtedly a structural element, perhaps the spokespeople consider the placement of the 58th core floor concrete (sometime next week) as the more official "tallest" date.

Glass winding around the 8th floor this week - here's a snap showing three rows each of the lower and upper varieties.

Even the Blue Angels had to swing by to check out the construction.

That last picture. Is that an airshow going on? Just happy it had nothing to do with those 9/11 hijacking terrorists.

What building is that to the right of SF? It looks quite tall. Maybe it's the angle?

The caption says it's Fleet Week, so there would be a little bit of air acrobatics (aircrobatics?) going on.

That's One Rincon Hill. It's actually only 641 feet, but I think because its on the hill it looks taller from different places.

I still can't tell whether or not this will be a beautiful tower. The renderings all make it 'glow' and don't seem too realistic. I'm hoping the tapered obelisk design looks good when it's completed.

I've come to the conclusion that if it was possible, I would trade Salesforce Tower for the US Bank Tower in LA. Not a big fan of pretty towers, and Salesforce looks like it will be too pretty and fat for San Francisco skyline. I think US Bank Tower would look good in that location.

I can't really tell if you're being facetious...

edit: oh ok you are being facetious

Something about this tower just screams San Francisco to me. I think it's the shape.
