The current design was selected from a competition comprising two other entries, one by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP, the other by the Richard Rogers Partnership, and could become the tallest building on the West Coast of the United States.
A taller, earlier design for the tower was 366 m / 1200 ft with 80 storys.
The Transbay Terminal Tower will be part of the Transbay Terminal redevelopment district that will include parks, redesigned streets, and high and lowrise condo and office towers.
