Was driving through St Catharines yesterday and noticed the vacant building at 229 St Paul Street (next to Kully's) has sold. Found this online, don't know if it's current or related to the sale, but very interesting.

Does the podium remind anyone else of a modern casino? That's the vibe I get.

Yes, very much so. I think it's compounded by the fact that it stands alone / isolated (also like many casinos).

Are there any plans for a high density community or village with some vibrancy along the lakefront? Right now there's nothing like that between Downtown Burlington and Port Dalhousie.

There's a few parks and some houses and a couple of marinas but no vibrant community that combines, park and/or beach, shopping/restaurants and residences. Doesn't have to be like Friday Harbour Resort in Innisfil on Lake Simcoe, but something interesting to give people a reason to pull off the QEW and head a couple minutes toward the lake.

My brother lives in St Catharines, and I haven't found a reason to pull off the QEW. I did however fish Jordan Harbour and the marina once by boat, but would have skipped it if I weren't an angler. Well they have that cool abandoned ship, but that's just one thing there.

those towers in Lincoln look really good actually judging from the promotional video. I do find it hilarious at the end how close they made Toronto's skyline appear to be though... oh it'll look waaay small from there.

LOL. What false advertising. I'd totally call them out on that. In reality, it is a nice view to look at for like a minute. If you actually live there and see that everday, might even be an afterthought.

They probably do this too for some Vancouver or Victoria condos where they make the mountains loom larger. They would definitely loom larger IRL than the TO skyline from this project, but so many Vic and LML pics of skylines are using a telephoto lens that flattens the image and brings the background much closer.

On a side note, I was just saying to my bro and wife that when going SB on the 403 around Upper Middle, I like how you can see the Niagara Falls skyline of the Skylon Tower and a few other hotels and on the odd day, the mist rising up from the actual falls. Of course, if you just go stand at a lakefront park you can see that too, but it's cool when you're on a road and can see that, which is due to that little bit of elevation.

It's hard to match those historic cores or even what was done with Friday Harbour (thanks for sharing that, it's the first time I've heard of that resort), but there are a few things happening along the QEW. They appear to be less attractive for tourists than the places you've highlighted, but they're worth a mention.

You might have noticed some things happening in Grimsby. A lakefront community with mixed-use buildings, condos and townhouses and lakefront trails has popped up. You can see the cluster of developments on this map: https://www.niagaradev.ca/

Also next to the Harbourfront Condos in Lincoln mentioned above, there's a massive 1,559 unit mixed-use development in the works: https://www.niagaradev.ca/profiles/lincoln/prudhommes

Ah thx. I've noticed a couple of spots cleared for development right off the highway. These might be one of them. I hope they turn out eventually to be something more than a bunch residences and a few shops.

Google doesn't have updated streetview in the area but this area of Grimsby is turning out quite nice:

Great photo. Do you mind if I share on NiagaraDev.ca and give credit to johnnyhamont again?

I used to live right near that place, didn't realize it was abandoned as it doesn't look so bad from outside. Downtown NF is a wasteland

i was shocked the first time i visited downtown NF. I had to catch a train. Was staying near the falls, and decided to walk from my hotel to the train station. I got there with 3 hours to spare, so I walked around downtown. Tumbleweed city. The decrepitude was on a level that I had not seen much before in Canada. looked more like NF NY (which is a complete disaster).

The problem with NF ON is that it essentially has 4 commercial retail areas instead of 1 successful one. You have downtown, Clifton Hill, the area around Fallsview, then the area at Highway 20 & main st.. what ends up happening is that none of them are successful as there are too many “options”.
