Now seems like a good time to point out this image again:

Think they're ever going to figure out how to finish off those flat balcony panels and connect the rail to the building? Doesn't seem like any balconies are finished.

This is poor planning. Someone somewhere must have had a plan! Or am I giving them too much credit?

One doesn't simply 'plan' to switch custom curving, face-mounted balcony railings with bulk-order Ali-Baba, top-mounted, quick-bolt balcony railings...

My prediction: The railing ends can't be installed because of clearance issues, plus the custom-length panels don't come with the shipping container from China, so the rails will terminate with a plus/minus 90 degree corner and go straight back to the building face, leaving the very pointiest bits of the balconies without a rail.

Does anyone know what this Icon-ish looking building is from RLA's website? It plays on their background slideshow but there is no other information. It looks a hell of a lot like the Hariri Pontarini design for Icon.

Was that not an earlier plan for Soho Italia? I recall they wanted to do the wavy balconies first and wanted an extra 5 floors for it, but the City turned them down so they went with the box design. Claridge then picked up the wavy balconies for Claridge and hired Hariri Pontarini.

All the wavy balconies allude to Studio Gang's famous Aqua Tower in Chicago that made this design popular.

Why couldn't RLA be trying this with their other buildings like by Somerset Square, 1960 Scott, Westgate? It seems they tried to do better stuff in the past but now they do bad work.

Irregular wavy balconies are so 2010s I hope we move on to something else in this decade.

I'd be ok with irregular wavy forms if they were done properly like Aqua in Chicago and One Bloor in Toronto but it just looks pathetic when a cost cutting joke of a builder emulates the style.

Remarkably similar. Maybe its a 'dig' at everyone else? The thing that sets this off for me is the thickened slab mid-left of the image. IDENTICAL to Icon's 5th..ish floor.

Ottawa's very own beacon of mediocrity.

Need some pics!

Anyone have intel on the balconies? Are they just pushing ahead with the current half-ass approach?

Can you guys imagine if this building remained the new tallest in the city like PDV Tower C was for 49 years or the tallest in the NCR like TDLC Tower 1 was for 42 years? Jeez. The ball is in Trinity's court now to step it up a few notches.

This photo I took is about two months old. I know vantage point posts for this one are a bit played out by now, but I've always enjoyed the fact that we have a farm in the middle of the city. Whereas some cities have a central park, we have a central farm. Please see attached a photo of our new tallest, and some cows.

That's a great angle. Certainly shows a bit of the quirkiness of Ottawa.
