That is a great proposal for that area and site. Beautiful job of continuing the existing street wall from the building on the corner of Sherbrook and Portage.

Can you say "Furby St canyon"!

I agree. The portage side looks fantastic, and I think the Furby side is well designed too although there isn't a clear drawing of that. Having the parking largely buried out of sight like this is the way I wish it could be for all developments (that don't have underground).

There is a view of the furby side. It's 3 storey townhouse style, with what looks like an entranceway to the tower in between.

Ah okay thanks for those. I love the little 3 storey corners on Furby. Helps to keep the scale of the street. The architects did a great job on this one, although I'm curious about the finishing materials.

The plan is for the podium to be masonry as it’s surrounds by brick buildings and will fit in with the context of the neighbourhood.

What's not to like about this? It will be a nice prominent feature coming into downtown on Portage, and as Biff said, I love how it compliments the neighbouring Casa Loma Building. Great attention to detail with how they've tucked away parking and made sure the streetfront spaces contribute to their surroundings. And at 20 floors it won't redefine the skyline, but it will definitely be noticeable given its location. I realize that the finishing could make or break this, but based on what we're seeing here it has the potential to be a really good addition.

With the Casa Loma, that'll be a heavy-duty block. I always got vague New York vibes from the combination of the Casa Loma and the big-brown-brick Lion's manor behind it, if I ignored the suburban shitshow of Rexall and Mcdonalds in front.

Fantastic proposal that came out of nowhere. Really impressive and hope it goes through sooner than later. Looks fantastic and is perfect for both the area and as an extension of downtown

This is great news! Great to see a proposal for that empty lot. Hopefully it goes through, and can make the area a bit more lively in the coming years.

I think that this is perfect for that area. It may be just the shot in the arm that's needed to spur some interest in opening up businesses across the street on North Portage between Sherbrook and Furby. I'm really glad this is happening. Furby St. was my childhood home. Just a few blocks North between Sargent and Cumberland.

Any news on 634 Portage Avenue?

The lot has some new signs up, but just generic stuff for the developer (PPP), not project specific.

Thats really going to change the look of entering the 'down town' area of our city while driving in from east bound portage ave way.

I love how its sideways and not facing the sidewalk. The tenants on the east top floors are going to have a great view if lions place isnt in the way!

When they say "tallest building outside of downtown in 35 years" what are they referring to as the current record-holder? I assume it's Seven Evergreen Place?
