Really well done, the juxtaposition of the old & new is softened by the night lighting effects, light & shadow is shown to be revealing, and the whole set is very nice.

Aldred is one of my favourite buildings in Canada - too bad this isn’t inspiring more designs in current architecture.

And now for a very different vibe - a small island city.

Finally getting around to posting some pictures from this summer:

One of the few remaining parking lots left in the city - not sure why this one is still around as it’s in a highly desirable location.

Looking back from the end of the block:

40 to 60 year old apartment buildings are getting cosmetic facelifts all over the city. Gone are the wood board balcony walls and single pane windows.

Thanks Esquire and Echoes

When I compare Vancouver and Victoria I say Vancouver is more ‘spectacular’ (mountains right there, the high rise buildings, downtown, major buildings, stadiums, etc) but Victoria is more ‘beautiful’. And a lot of Victoria is ‘gorgeous’, the Parliament Buildings, the coastal beaches and neighbourhoods, gardens, etc. That beauty is consistent throughout and across the city whereas Vancouver can be more utilitarian and dreary in places. I love both cities, but of course they are very different despite being so intertwined.

Last year our annual Christmas light tour took us to the suburbs of Surrey and Langley to see how things compare to more urban areas, and we were not disappointed.

Many houses in Langley decorate for Christmas and light up the neighborhood.

A house in Willowbrook area had over 40,000 lights on as part of them collecting money for charity.

Also in Surrey's Cloverdale, several houses put up bright and colorful light displays for people near and far to enjoy.

We finished our tour in North Delta, where one single house had over 100 inflatable characters on its yard. This was guaranteed to be the favorite of all children with so much to see.

Interactive Christmas light shows seem to be gaining popularity and this house in Walnut Grove neighborhood always put up a nice show.

I must remember to clean the lens on my phone camera... botched a pair of nice shots of the Notre-Dame Cathedral and the National Gallery
