I can't look at this image from SF Gate and not think about how much this tower needs a spire or some sort of taper, it looks so squat and flat topped the way it is now.

I agree it would look better with a spire, but "squat"? Dude it's 1,070' tall, relatively skinny, and towers over all other high rises in the city. How can you call that squat? And it does taper.

And on another note, socketsite is reporting that Google is thinking about leasing a bunch of office space in mission bay (at the old salesforce site) or in the transbay tower:

It tapers and then ends abruptly, that's what I meant by squat. Not short.. It seems unfinished as it reaches the top. It looks better in other renders, so maybe it's the drawing.

Only looks squat because the Rincon Hill towers rendered in foreground are out of proportion.

I don't think TB Tower would look good with a spire *with* current design. With the Foster design (or whatever the other favored design was), yes, different story.

I think the design of the crown will show better in real life. Some of the renderings show it better. This one you dont see the center design at all.

Go away Lotte stop trying to outshine SF (ok Koreans can have it but only because Seoul is 20x larger)

TBT will be incredible when looking from the street. A spire is not Pelli Clark's style so stop trying to make it happen.

haha... just to clarify, I actually like TBT better than Lotte (and Seoul looks rather uninviting in that particular render), and hope Google chooses it if that makes it more sure to be built soon.

More equipment than ever on site, including a large derrick crane.

With the addition of this new crane, one at 181 Fremont, and 5-6 at TB Terminal, there are so many cranes in the area (not to mention 2 tower cranes).

I'm not big on Lotte at all. Think Transbay is actually better proportioned.

This is exciting. Two Supertalls going up in California. And to be honest, two good looking ones at that!

Currently: The last time we checked in on the tower, permits were issued and excavation was in an exploratory phase. We now have some seriously heavy-duty equipment on site and a more permanent construction fencing installed. A quick word with an onsite contact confirmed that this project will be entering full-scale excavation immediately.

I like this tower, but I am not a fan of the "ends in a screen" trend. NYT does the same thing.
