The west side of Richards street was walkable today giving the opportunity for some views not normally easy to get.

Cool.
What time was that 9:00 pm? - I'll keep an eye out if I'm walking by.

The bit extending out suggests that the ledge/louvre/sunshade will extend across the balconies
- which would be consistent with the renderings and model.

Overall, I think the effect of the ledge/louvre/sunshade is disappointing.
I guess they couldn't do a an extended slab for the ledge because of the curtain wall.
I was hoping for a bolder hood-like appearance (which was their intent) - but not as good as this:

Looking awesome! is that canopy at the finished height? it looks low enough for some idiot to climb on if it's not...

Those glass fins look pretty pointless. I'm surprised they couldn't "cheap out" by using plastic panels with the colour of wood instead...

A load of new heavy steel beams now installed perpendicular to the ones below. It will be interesting to watch the offset section develop as some of it hangs out over the podium.

Why must it be that colour of spandrel?? They could afford curtain wall glazing, might as well take the opportunity (afforded by the suppression of the mullions) to try idunno, coffee colour or bronze backpainted spandrel?

This is one of those things "only in Vancouver". I suppose the building wouldn't otherwise "blend in", being tall, massive and all... I am also very disappointed by the total lack of color.

Judging from Westbank's previous landmark projects I'm pretty shocked that the residential tower and podium are turning out nothing like the renderings that were marketed. They've basically deleted all the interesting details that made them unique. Can we expect the same value engineering over at Vancouver House as well?

Isn't a 24 person bar/pub really small? This seems weird to me....

It might not be a bar. Might just be a licensed cafe or a small restaurant.

edit: Nevermind, I see it's a liquor primary license. So a very small bar. hmm.

Isn't it unusual for the application to be in the name of Mr. Gillespie himself?

Possibly intended to be a speakeasy?

I love that balcony outside of the office. If a Telus employee wanted to get back at their boss they could lock them out there (all night long).

It is in fact for a small cafe. For example, though unrelated think of Thierry Chocolate's cafe setup on Alberni which has a small seating setup but has a liquor license.

Pics by me today -

Unexpected edge trim on the canopy which really hides the ribs...
It could be just under the office tower to support the glass enclosure for the lobby.
(Just noticed it was shown in McMinsen's sidewalk curb shot)

No one answered my question about that feature canopy, looks like it's very easy for someone to climb up onto it they way it is, hopefully they raise it up a bit. It does look fantastic though!
