By the way, there is a LEED credit that discourages light pollution in the night sky from buildings in California. This is an environmental concern among many others in a very green conscious state. While some like cities or buildings with bright lights, others much rather see the stars. I like seeing both, but I am willing to travel for that. Anyway, this maybe a little off topic.
If true, it's a ridiculous concern, especially in a city like San Francisco.

The light pollution from the city itself is enough to drown out most stars in the sky. If a city has the population to support highrises, then the light pollution from some LED lighting on a skyscraper will have near zero impact on one's ability to see stars. You have to travel a good distance outside of major cities to get a good view of the night sky

I support lighting up skyscrapers generally and lighting up Salesforce Tower specifically, but in most neighborhoods San Franciscans can still see the stars at night. We generally don't have the intense kind of light pollution common in cities like Los Angeles, where I definitely could not see the stars.

I agree (and didn't initially respond)--I can see an amazing amount of stars at night from my deck whenever it is not foggy, and I live close to the geographical center of the City. San Francisco doesn't usually have the air pollution levels of other cities and it doesn't have as much light pollution either. It will become even better as more and more streetlights are converted to LEDs that are designed to reduce light pollution.

On another note, San Francisco, like many major cities, doesn't allow signs on top of buildings like Los Angeles does.

My impression is one can see the stars from just about everywhere in San Francisco on a clear night, the notable exceptions being downtown, adjacent SOMA, North Beach and the Wharf, industrial areas like India Basin, commercial streets like Market, etc. I see the stars from right here on my La-z-boy, and I'm at Church and Market.

I never saw the stars when I lived in West LA. I did see them in Midtown Sacramento and most of Boston.

Windows with Trim

First windows with Pelli style trim. At least they look quite a bit like the rendering.

^ based on brantw's photo, it looks like salesforce tower is now the tallest building south of market, measuring from ground level to roof.

The top of the inner forms for the core is at floor 45. So, (45-1)*15=660 feet.

Millenium is 645 feet (or 644, since it's sinking )

Right now, SF tower is the fourth tallest highrise building in Northern California. In about 19 days, it will be the third. In about 31 days, it will be the second. And, in about 50 days, it will be the tallest.

Gotta love how Pelli & Associates articulate their glass facades. I can already tell this is gonna look great. And change based on your angle of view.
