Tangentially, other than Boston and Chicago (the two obvious ones), have any other bands adopted the name of their hometown as their own?

Is there a band named "Jacksonville" that I've just never heard of before? I hope so, because they're probably much better than "Toronto".
Well, At the Drive-In's first EP was named Hell Paso. That's kind of close?

I have nothing to add..I'm just doing a drive by to state that all my favourite city names
are derived from North American indigenous people, although I had no idea up until now that Seattle is also included in that list..No wonder I like it's name!

Savanna Ill.

Not an accurate descriptor of the town.

There's really not a lot of woodlands in "The Woodlands". Trees? yes. But actual woodlands (at least in the sense of a forest)... meh, not really. Mostly mcmansions, boulevards, cul-de-sacs, and yuppies.

Why are we excluding non-English names, like Detroit? As Steely pointed out, for many places, the local language at the time of their naming was something other than English. This requirement eliminates a lot of Michigan locations with either French or Native American origins.

Anyway, your rules make it harder, but here's a few I could think of in Michigan:
  • Flint (for the rocky river bed)
  • Hillsdale (consisting of many small hills and dales)
  • Coldwater (self-explanatory)
  • Hemlock (lots of Hemlock trees there)
  • Lakeview (there must be a ton of these, (something)-views)
  • Wolverine
  • Diorite
  • Sands

Just as Michigan has a Hell, it also has a Paradise. Both capitalize on tourism. Paradise, in the upper Peninsula, is more enjoyable, in my opinion.
