Could be waiting out the end of their lease?

On WSJ wires: Hudson's Bay, the Canadian department store chain founded in 1670, is preparing for a bankruptcy filing within days, people familiar with the matter said.

Reginians: Oh well... Anyway...

It was sold to American private equity group in 2008. It hasn't been Canadian for a long time. It's value lies in the big footprint of its real estate, not the retail business.

So what's the plan with the space in the Cornwall Centre?

Hudson's Bay closing April 6....

The Hudson's Bay store is closing tomorrow (Sunday, April 6). Someone told me that they might not even be open tomorrow. I had a quick look in the store this morning and there is really nothing left.
So sad that this is the end of the traditional department stores in Regina.

I don’t know if it was mentioned, but Atmosphere being absorbed into Sportchek. Signs are down for both Atmosphere and the restaurant in the former Swiss Chalet at Southland Mall.

Finally had a chance to check out the new Mortise + Tenon on 13th/Robinson. Similar size to their former spot on 13th, quite a bit smaller than their old spot on 11th. The person working there said that there is also a clothing store and restaurant moving into the building. The restaurant will be on the east end of the building and will feature a patio on the corner. Some sort of bar is moving above 33 1/3. Five separate businesses in this block is going to be massive for the neighbourhood

Similar in Saskatoon where Broadway seems to be more attractive for many businesses. Generally there is lower rent, better parking, lower property taxes, but most importantly these days, less street people.

Very cool. Thanks for sharing. That building has always had a lot of potential but has been totally under-utilized for the last 20 years or so.

Owners of Everyday Kitchen are involved with a project there (they are also investors in 33 1/3). Not sure what the plan is, but not likely an EK.

Everyday Kitchen is operating the restaurant on the east end of the building and apparently they will be doing bagels and other stuff. The space above 33 & 1/3 is supposed to be their cafe during the day and a wine/cocktail bar at night, and is associated with Homestead Bar A Vin. I heard the clothing store will be a men's shop and X-Ray records may share the space with them. The building is also supposed to get a much needed face lift. Overall this a great development for 13th Ave!

Dang - add 2-4 floors of housing and you have the perfect development!

Not gonna happen with all the NIMBY's in the neighbourhood as they caused the scaling back of the relatively new building that went up on the corner of 13th & Elphinstone across the street from Connaught Elementary.
