Cemeteries waste so much space! Montreal should emulate Paris and build catacombs!

It's wasted only if you don't enjoy it. Côte-Des-Neiges is like a huge park full of magnificent monuments and sculptures. It's quite spectacular and worth a visit.

That's an old turning bridge not in use anymore.

yep. I walked there every couple of weeks. Some very famous people are buried there. Very beautiful.

The catacombs of Paris (and in other cities) is fascinating. I have visited those in Paris, Vienna, and Lima.

The story behind these places is very interesting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catacombs_of_Paris

I recently went up to the mont-royal cemetery. Established in 1852, many of Canada's early prominent businessmen and politicians are buried there. I even saw Toe Blake's gravestone.

^you have got to see Cimitiere Notre Dame des Neiges (which is even better). Some very famous Canadians (founders of the country) are buried there. And if you like Toe Blake, you may be interested that Maurice Richard is buried at Cimitiere NDN.

I've never been there but I knew the Rocket is buried there. Definitely will go up there one of these days! Also, I think I heard or read somewhere that Marc Lepine AND his victims are buried in that cemetary.. Kind of an odd situation if its true.

People actually visit those cemeteries regularly? that's awesome. I find most are usually deserted aside from when there is a funeral or the rare person visiting a relative or loved one.

Normal ones, no, but special old/beautiful ones are great to walk through.

Like the Toronto Necropolis:

.

.

Or Mount Pleasant Cemetery:

I don't want to revive a fight, but I'm fairly sure a few shots on Longueil snuck in those pics.
