Just saw on CBC. Architect Ernie Walters died this weekend. He was the guy redeveloping a pile of residential properties in crescentwood.

I spoke to him on many different occasions. He was definitely interesting too say the least, but he did manage to build a lot of multi-unit infill in the Corydon area. Winnipeg needs more people/developers/architects like this who push the system like it or not.

was downtown twice last week (Jets skills competition & Jets game) and the funnelator in front of the library is really cool looking. It really lights up the area nicely. both times I flew by as it was like -40!

also went to Bay downtown and Portage Place sunday afternoon with my kids to attempt to buy something for their Mom. what a bunch of low budget store in there and majority are low budget folks shopping. food court had 2 people asking for handouts, the rest were slobs eating greasy chicken. i'm not trying to be an elitist, but man what a disgrace.

But in line with your previous comments about downtown: "nothing but stumbling drunks", "20 or more smokers...not a nice welcome party to get in their store", "what a shoddy place", "not to rain on anyone's parade but the image of ol' calcuta (sic) next door, pan handlers hanging out on rocks...just don't do it for many." I don't know if this has been mentioned, but in the atrium of the MB Hydro building they have on display 6 or so of the finalists of that Fort Gary Campus redevelopment. Didn't get a chance to see them that well but they have models of the proposed development in addition to a write up. I know some poeple were interested in what the other finalsists looked like so here's your chance to see them.

Proposed Condo Development at the the corner of Marion and Traverse, the old Esso station, now an empty lot. Have no idea on the time table or pre-sales before it breaks ground.

yeah saw that the other day, prime spot for a condo/apartment. across from safeway, close to St.B hospital, major transit route, etc. there's 2 empty lots beside each other, too bad both weren't developed. if only i had $ to back up all the ideas I have!

Only if we did..I have a few loto tickets I have to check, maybe we'll get lucky, we'll partner up.

Great location no doubt, it's been sitting vacant for some time.
I hope the lot across the street is picked up for developement as well. It's a prime location as you mentioned. I can only imagine what you'd have planned for it....

That's going to be on the old EK city hall site.

I was going to ask a week or so ago if anybody knew if there was anything going on at that site as I had noticed some excavations going on when out for a walk.

Putting the entire parking lot in the back of the building would have been considered if:

a) The city could keep the streets cleaner (and thus not spraying a building up against the road)

b) The city could keep criminals in check (and thus no car break-ins behind a building)
