Don't worry the majority of us don't see anything resembling Halifax in that horrible photo

Really? I can understand with the amount of highrise residential, but even then, Edmonton is still dominated (in height atleast) with a fair amount of office space. North York has a fair amount office space, but I'd argue that Edmonton has a more centered CBD, which makes sense because NY is an urban node, and Edmonton is obviously a city xD. Also, Edmonton (obviously) would have been growing up a lot earlier then North York, seeing as Edmonton does have some heritage stock from the early 20th century and before. (Keep in mind, I never have visited the west coast, so I got bias I suppose, and am basing a lot of the random stuff I just said based on SSP database info, this isn't a troll post, just curious what you mean)

40 years ago a lot of the area around North York Center was just open fields and/or farming.

It was about 30 years ago that development started to take off there with the new subway extension at its core. Yonge Street is basically a highway up here, but the sidewalks are nice and wide and getting busier every year. I actually love hanging out in North York, its close to my suburban home and its not as super busy as downtown, so its got a relaxed vibe.

North York vaguely looks like Edmonton from an aerial position over Bathurst with the Don River Valley in between. Close up and it falls apart with the difference in scale (number of highrises, West Don River vs North Saskatchewan)

40 years ago was 1975.

Yeah North York Centre has development dating from the 1930s, however the majority of the original buildings were built during the 40s. By the early 1950s it would have been pretty much built out.

40 years ago North York Centre was completely built up, pretty much the entire borough of North York was completely built up. The Willowdale community which makes up the area of North York Centre was first developed over 100 years ago.
