Wait and see. I can't beleive anyone thinks the crane would remain visible. How many cranes do you see ontop of towers?
Once work has completed it will be moved, it's there because it would be in the way right now as they are still working on the units.
To all those people worrying needlessly about the window washing crane atop the Shangri la...if you need convincing that this thing is retractable why not use this link http://maps.live.com and look at the tops of other high rise structures in the downtown core or any other city for that matter. YOu will see that Park Place and the Bentall Towers have them also. That having been said...what would be the point of them retracting the Window Washing Crane before the building is finished? It is being utilized to wash windows for crying out loud.
My concern is that it doesn't look very retactible. Yes I am aware that there are very few Widow washing cranes visible. However, there is one monstrosity above that redish Pink Building in Coal Harbour Area. Just worried our tallest is going to be like that one. So Jlo was I right than does it end up inside the Mech roof and that steel box area on the south east corner?

i was walking downtown and noticed that pinkish tower on 1500 alberni has an ugly looking crane sticking out at the penthouse level on permanant basis.
