I don't think this is allowed anymore-- via the Beltline overlay--

Pretty sure this is inaccurate, considering the latest "Madison Yards" design approved by Reynoldstown:

While Memorial Drive may transform into a decent neighborhood experience, the part of the BeltLine between Memorial and Glenwood may be one of the worst suburban experiences of the entire BeltLine

Think of all of the damage he's doing to the city. Next, he'll want to put a massive Target with a 200-space surface parking lot on the land owned by Dewberry at 10th and Peachtree.

That spot would be great for a nice large department store, would really help increase foot traffic and help the midtown mile project come to full fruition.

lol, i can see this in my head now. the target "fronts peachtree" with a 2 story "urban design" with a single entrance, and the rest of the lot is a parking deck.

Why does Fuqua insist in ruining Atlanta? There are plenty of other cities he could terrorize.

OK, know this isn't going to be popular, but I live just down from here, and have walked through there. I don't mind it so much. There's going to be restaurants up there (American Deli) already has sign in the window, and that upper area is set up to be outdoor dining. I really wouldn't want to be eating right on a busy street like Glenwood, I like that there's a little offset and you'd be looking just a little over traffic, and just a little removed from the noise and car and bus fumes. On the wall, the go-to wall covering in that area seems to be creeping fig or virginia creeper, so wouldn't be surprised if it's not covered over in a year or so. So given some time with the street trees growing that area may not be too bad. I'm sure it's going to soon be overrun by students from Grady High (Right - Maynard High) across the street every day though.

I get what you're saying, but why should Atlanta have to settle for a development that "may not be too bad" rather than having one that is excellent and meets the requirements of urban design? I know people in that area will be ecstatic to have these retail options that weren't there before, but he just doesn't care what is best for the city and sticks us with a more faux urban design that requires very little creativity when there are plenty of examples of it in cities all over the country.

Of course, the single entrance would be from inside the parking deck.

I agree. If we're not careful, one day we'll have a city full of "not bad." Let's face it, we aren't exactly laid out ideally, so we should make every effort to incorporate attractive and SMART urban design when at all possible.

Modera Buckhead (corner of Peachtree and Pharr) filed a building permit for the foundation of the tower.

PDF of the development (large file). Looks pretty good, with street-front retail on both Peachtree and Pharr, and three levels of underground parking.

This pocket of Atlanta is becoming quite an active node. While I'd prefer the developments to be in closer proximity to the heart of the city, this area is shaping up nicely. Hopefully crossing Peachtree will be more inviting once the streetscaping is complete.

ATL snags GE IT Center.

GE has picked Atlanta for a $3 million global digital operations center, a move that will create 250 jobs. The GE Digital division which will employ engineers and customer support folks, could be located at Coda, a 750,000-square-foot office tower planned for Tech Square. This new center — GE's first — is a part of the company's Industrial Internet initiative and will support GE's Global Infrastructure operations.

QuikTrip at Viewpoint filed a permit today to add an outdoor dining area. Ladies and gentlemen, we officially have the fanciest gas-free gas station in the country.

Nearby, Alta (33 Ptree Pl) filed their electrical permit. So this one is getting close.
