I noticed that too.
I figure the name is too prominently featured to not be accurate.

Everything in the videos screams luxury mall. Looks like this will be Vancouver’s Yorkdale.

Yes. This will be the nicest mall in the country, by far.

Oakridge will definitely snag a few lux retailers, will be interesting to see if they can get a critical mass to create another node or just a few.

It would be nice if they could get some critcal mass similar to yorkdale or dare I suggest Columbus Circle in NYC - a mix of outstanding restaurants - a cultural hub with the performance halls and Jazz at Lincoln Centre along with Shopping and of course a full whole foods.

Lots of potential with this development and the Time Out Market is a great step in the right direction.

That's the goal, and they are certainly making the right moves to get there. Whether the market responds and the timing is right will be interesting to watch.

Oh, what can go wrong with a large beautiful multi-storey mall?

Funny you think that a much denser downtown Vancouver doesn't deserve a second mall while you highly approve this one.

Will be much better than Yorkdale with all the towers around it. It will become a vibrant neighbourhood.

Interesting how everyone was commenting on how malls will kill off vibrancy on the streets, while in fact it will enhance it when properly designed like Oakridge.

Thanks to the likes of Richmond Centre, Brentwood, Lougheed and Metrotown. The City of Vancouver has finally realized that a large scale mall can bring about the rise of a town centre.

Beyond 100 metres of Brentwood or Metrotown, the neighbourhood and towers become about as "vibrant" as Dunbar. It'll take a lot more streetfronts around Oakridge to prevent all the activity from getting sucked into the mall like a black hole.

The Willingdon and Lougheed intersection is abysmal.

Oakridge was always a mini town centre and a busy train station. The mall was there first, if you remember.

True. Can't exactly traffic-calm Lougheed, but I'm willing to believe that densifying the gas stations and Chevy dealership will at least bring it up to Broadway and Cambie standard.

Agreed. Highly looking forward to the projects being proposed outside the mall site along Cambie (office and hotel and more retail) as well as the high street designation for Heather St.

The mall was there before, and we will still have a mall. It's all the other goodies from the Cambie Plan that are exciting as well as urban realm improvements for a 21st century mall.

The absence of an underground connection from the station to the east means that the street level will remain active in that direction. Likewise for the north, although there is a possibility of a tunnel to the north.

Looking at the plans, however, it's not clear that the Cambie and 41st Ave. frontages of the mall will have streetfront retail.

Just curious, are you referring to the neighbourhoods or the malls? Because Metrotown the neighbourhood actually has a number of vibrant pockets not located all that close to Metrotown the mall.

For example, Maywood Park, Bonsor Skatepark, and La Foret are all consistently busy. I love walking through Maywood Park on a weekend afternoon and seeing family picnics, elderly men playing table tennis, and children on the playground. Burnaby Civic Square is also a great "third place" and is very busy with Tai Chi on the lawn by the horses, people reading on the benches, and power walkers taking laps.

Hmmm, “remove canopies” doesn’t sound good. This plaza keeps getting scaled back.
