Going from this icon to New Canaan every night is part of New York’s unparalleled glory.

Going from 1646' to 1575' is not necessarily a bad thing. It would look out of place like Dubai and Asian skylines where as New York has always looked proportional. Plus this thing looks like a total monster besting the original WTC towers in bulk.

If anybody's taking bets that Affirmation will also get a haircut, the odds are currently looking good that it will.

This already got a minor haircut.

This also has nothing to do with Affirmation. People were dismayed that there was no affordable housing in that tower, and the new Governor wants to be re-elected.

Affirmation Tower is just one of many proposals for that site.

This is truly going to be Terminal City as it was meant to be. The seeds were laid, and watered over the years. Now things begin to blossom.

175 Park kind of looks like the fancy gift box that Chrysler comes in.

I always thought that was 1 Vanderbilt, and now 175 Park is the box 1 Vanderbilt comes in. Like nesting dolls.

Midtown can accommodate much taller than 1646', thanks to the 1550' CPT that's already there, and the fair number of not-much-shorter supertalls near it.

I am still hoping that this one will be taller than 1550', although I agree with Zapatan that it seems to be at most 1500' in the "golden" rendering above. NYguy told us not to take these renderings too literally, but if they consistently show ~1500', that's quite likely Grand Hyatt's preferred height, at least for now. Still a very nice addition to the skyline, but the CPT would remain America's highest roof, *SIGH*.

I’m amazed that you guys are still trying to pinpoint the exact height of a tower based on a rendering. There’s nothing consistantly showing you “1,500”.

It was in the set of design documents - to further tie the tower into its historical surroundings the structure's cladding will not be stainless steel - it will be 1. a champage color and 2. Matte (as opposed to shiny / glossy)

Pretty much every rendering / depiction / diagram shows the building around that height in comparison to 1V's spire.

It's not a bad way, especially since 1,575' is probably the maximum allowable, not the height of the building.

I'm more just extremely frustrated that they probably blew the opportunity to go higher than Central Park Tower, although of course we'll all have to wait for the final word.

I think that this ties Verre and Steinway as the most beautiful skyscraper built in America after WWII.

175 Park has some 9 DeKalb vibes going with it. Its the cousin of 9 DeKalb who overdosed on Ovaltine Classic Malt Flavored Milk Mix.

Some real winners in the architectural game. Maybe tower of the year when complete? Who knows?

I'd imagine the CTBUH will nominate this tower in the future, almost confident of it.

^ It’s certainly up there. I think 270 Park will be nice (when we finally see it) also. Probably not as nice as this one, but still nice.
