Overall, I'd rather have ours. It is cool at the base but a basic box up top. We have to many basic boxes already and more being constructed as it is.

First time I've ever seen that Seattle tower and I'm gonna have to give a big "no thanks" on that one. Maybe I'm a minority but I like the look of 98 RR. I like how it mirrors the Independent, which I also quite like.

Nah, you're not alone. I think the building is gonna look a lot nicer than the renderings show. Not many people were a fan of the Google tower based on the renderings but it's mostly unanimous now how much everyone likes it.

Agreed. Just want a frosted strip of light on the crown or something. That straight line on the current renders is gonna look so sick when it's all done.

After reviewing this more I like the idea of a twist in the tower section. I also think the crown as shown will be visible 360 degrees if lighted from within. A bright light band around the crown edge, as ahealy just stated will add a lot as well. I think the final renderings will be great, and the final tower will be welcomed.

We shall see what this 1000+" monster will bring to our skyline!

My first impression too. The wall beneath the twin trees already looks precarious. A couple of good rain events and the toe of that bank is in grave danger of disappearing; then the wall. Knowing how Shoal Creek floods after 30 years in Austin, this just does not look like a long term solution. Perhaps the city has a plan to come back and reinforce the bottom. I certainly hope so.

This is along Waller Creek, not Shoal Creek.

A flood control tunnel was built to divert flood waters along Waller Creek, so flooding should not be an issue in this area.

With that said, this wall is not the final changes coming to the creek. There are some pretty grand plans for Waller Creek.

Thanks for the correction! The tunnel project will help significantly; though the "angle of repose" for this bank is less steep. I hope these grand plans address this issue.

However, 98 RR does have a much more visible and confirmed luxury hotel component … and it’s clearly moving forward in ways 90 RR still isn’t. I guess I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Ritz as part of our super tall. TBH, what else COULD it be?

If 80 RR is the Ritz what brand might we see occupy 98RR? Doubtful it would be the Waldorf Astoria since Hilton's Conrad brand is headed for 307 E. 2nd St. Perhaps St. Regis?

The rendering of that section of wall is only showing grass and trees below the bottom of the wall. Maybe they are relying on the flood tunnel. Notice the fence poles are in place in the photo for the fence shown in the rendering.

Not that it will be...but, just because a Conrad is going in up the street does not preclude Hilton's top brand from establishing itself in Texas' tallest tower.

If you stop to think about it, we'll have the Conrad on 2nd St., an unnamed luxury hotel at RR and Cesar Chavez, and the Ritz at the Travis #2. Three luxury brands all within a couple of blocks of one another. Not to mention our venerable Four Seasons just down CC a ways. All the sudden, in the span of a couple of years, we'll deliver three luxury properties all clustered around the same area of town. I'm tellin' ya, in a lot of ways, Rainey/Convention Center is the new center of the city.
