it's not fatboyburger, just Fat Burger and it's a franchise out of the USA, franchise owned by a local boy.

It warms the cockles of my heart to know that something is happening at the old Basil's location.

A second Barley Brothers is moving into the old Earls on Pembina:

Winnipeg Free Press - PRINT EDITION
Bigger Barley Brothers on tap
Firm's second craft-brew pub due on Pembina

"The owners of the city's first craft-beer pub plan to open another one this fall they say will boast the largest selection of beer on tap in Canada.

FB Hospitality, the Winnipeg-based restaurant development and management company that opened a Barley Brothers craft-beer pub last fall in the former Kelsey's Restaurant on Empress Street, now plans to open an even bigger Barley Brothers this fall in the former Earl's Restaurant on Pembina Highway."

Im not a big beer fan but I have enjoyed BB's the few times i've been. It will be interesting to see how they do at that location as my understanding was Earls vacated due to insane rental demands.

earls closed up as they have much "hipper" places at st.vital and polo park. insane rental changes after a tenant pulls out and place sits empty for years. i was by there yesterday and it still says for lease, but that doesn't always mean it's not leased yet

As discussed sometime ago, part of the thinking is that Earls effectively relocated their Pembina business over to St Vital when that location opened as they were too close together. There also seems to be potential for a new Earls location closer to Ikea if a suitable site became available if the Pembina location was closed.

I didn't know new owners were involved until today.

See the Free Press story from today:

Winnipeg Free Press - PRINT EDITION
Back to business for former Basil's
New eatery to open on site

"The lights will soon be back on at one of Osborne Village's best-known restaurant locations.

An as-yet-unnamed restaurant is expected to open early next month in the former Basil's location on the northwest corner of Osborne Street and Stradbrook Avenue.

The new outlet will be owned and operated by the same two business partners who last November took over another well-known Osborne Street eatery -- Bistro 7 1/4 at 725 Osborne.

"We're really hoping we can get everything open for Canada Day," Bistro 7 1/4 co-owner Jarrett Connery said. "We're not doing a huge renovation inside... but we need to get an occupancy permit and a liquor permit." "

Anyone know anything about this restaurant? This is the same address as Tre Visi and Sensi Wine Lounge.

I have heard that was no longer Tre Visi, The new Tre Visi is where Spudtino's used to be. The reviews of the new one are not all that great from what I've heard.

Quite happy with this, the era should have ended at least 15 years earlier, Although the variance to allow the lot/drive thru to remain is well, not what this area needs more of. C'est la vie.
