Really great listen - thanks for sharing

I'm excited to read that report he mentions... and for that potential announcement! His vision and approach to urban design in Winnipeg really resonate with me.

I really like the idea of honing in on districts, focusing on new infrastructure and public amenities to attract more development. This paired with proper rapid transit investments and updates to zoning laws would help attract new development without doing a crazy mega scheme. Not wildly expensive, not reinventing the wheel.

These districts could all be designed to emphasize the value and existing identity of downtown's smaller areas. If done right, it could help create a diverse range of smaller area-identity's throughout downtown, yet still tied into the larger picture of Downtown.

There is so much untapped potential here. We just need leadership and vision, something I very much see in Glen.

I will certainly be voting Murray if he throws his hat in.

Even Lloyd Axworthy is against the canada day cancelation at the forks. The hyper political correctness is too much now for many voters this gives Motkaluk some wedge issue to pursue.

Hopefully the Shaun Zimmer comment keeps her from winning too many people over. Someone associated with that level of "FrEdom FigHtinG" such as Zimmer would be terrifying leading our city. If we thought Katz and Bowman were bad, this is a whole other level.

The Forks is in a tough spot. It's hard for a place rooted in Indigenous culture to pretend that everything is tickety-boo and that it's fine to have a rah-rah Canada kind of event.

For what it's worth I don't mind Canada Day becoming a bit more of a low-key event the way that it used to be. It seems that Canada Day really hit overdrive during the national unity crises in the 90s... it was felt that we had to ramp things up to be more like July 4 in the US, and the feds funded a bunch of high profile events. Before that it wasn't a huge deal, it was your standard summer long weekend. I think I liked that more than the Independence Day imitation it has evolved into, at least until recent years.

To me it just feels like you cannot celebrate being canadian anymore and we have to do these daily national shamming episodes constantly on the news day in day out. I think you can still celebrate canada and have fire works while at the same time having areas setup to teach what happened on the forks site that day in terms of reconciliation.

Certainly doesn't help that the various "trucker" protests have co-opted the Canadian flag, and now whenever I see someone driving along with a couple Canadian flags on their vehicle I immediately assume they are convoy supporters.

Glen Murray running for mayor. Man. He was the first mayoral candidate I voted for after becoming eligible. Major blast from the past.

Reconciliation isnt just something we say one day and move on and go back to how it always was. Its a process and requires legitimate effort to make right.

"Celebrating" Canada Day at the Forks of all places....ignoring the reality of that isnt right. Doing it the right way is perfectly fine. And they will be doing many events that day. That is Canada.
