That's good to hear. Hopefully the site doesn't stay vacant for too long. Bank st. south of the Rideau comes to mind with several sites.

Looks like they're going to start digging the foundation for this one

At the rate the phase 2 western extension is going - this might actually open before the station does.

I know it seems never ending when they announce delays, but living nearby, the progress on the tunnel and now the stations and rail lines feels very tangible. It'll all be set back now as they have to dig up Richmond again to move more utilities that they weren't able to during the tunnel dig, but the progress has been continuous and the teams have actually done a great job of keeping neighbours informed (IMO). I'm optimistic about it. Looking forward to Richmond as a complete street as well (though more of the car dealership lots need to go).

I haven't seen any significant activity on this site yet since they cleared it. Starting construction next year seems most likely. I'm really looking forward to it, even though it'll block our view of Gatineau hills - hopefully it'll look nice and bring more people and businesses to the area.

An update on some blasting work from the local councillor: https://www.baywardbulletin.ca/1047-richmond-road-3/. Good to see work is getting started - I noticed there were some larger piles of dirt going by. I am surprised they're not required to give more advanced notice for blasting activities in the area.

These sentences tell me they're not actually ready for construction phase

According to the information we received, the purpose of this work is to remove contaminated materials before the building construction begins.

Once they have removed the rock required, the hole will be filled in until construction phase.

Goodbye glass curtain-wall... hello precast concrete panels!

So I wonder what an Ottawa developer pays an A-list architect (IBI in this case) to design and promote an initial splashy design, for the purpose of garnering good PR for a new high-profile project, knowing full well that it will never come to fruition, and will instead be replaced in classic bait-and-switch fashion, by yet another RLA mediocrity?

Reduced quality of the proposal, but honestly, I'm not too upset. The other design, although quite nice, was very bulky and would have been better suited for a Downtown area, better suited for an office complex.

This gives more of a residential vibe. I prefer the lower scale podium. We're still getting generous retail space.

I am no closer to satisfying my curiosity about what I'm supposed to be upset about.

Who said you're supposed to be upset about anything? You're free to have your own opinion and others are free to have theirs and they don't need to match. Its not that deep!

Precisely. What a travesty, add it to the long list. At least it will fit in well with it's 70s era brutalist neighbour buildings.

Many of us think it’s ugly, that’s about it. I’m sure if you showed the average person side-by-side pics of the two renderings most would prefer the previous one. But whatever, housing is housing but it’d be nice if we could also match the design to the current century instead of building concrete or dark-brick commie blocks all over the damn place.
