why? i think it is a good idea as it gives a bit of variation for the skyline; something our table-top lacks.

of course it is, that is a condition of the development. who said it wasn't?

Welcome to Passive House design. It'll be the new standard Vancouver design. Max-glass towers days are over.
Yeah, and developers are laughing their way to the bank with these max-spandrel towers of late. Or they can just spec better windows instead of less. Curtainwall is getting cheaper.

It adds to the table-top, because it's uneven due to the viewcones.

I mean, it is part of city land, and a strange place to put a park. I didn't hear anything about it, so I wanted to check.

I'd like to meet those developers for not sure what curtainwall price does for the new Green Buildings Policy and Passive House design guidelines.

I'm sure once it enters a sales phase we'll see a marketing name for it.

I hope they don't call it something derivative and hokey, like "The Manhattan" or maybe "Fifth Avenue." Thinking up a name for this obviously New York- inspired set will be a challenge.
IMHO, it might perhaps have an oblique reference to NYC (very oblique), yet be original without being too local or provincial. Maybe a naming contest would be in order.

No, of course not. I just mentioned that so it woulsn't get stck with something untoward. It'll be fine, as you imply, I'm sure.

My guess is that it will have a NYC reference, and that it hasn't yet been named because they don't want to raise the ire of the local architects (ie panelists) who are biased against the NYC character of the design.

Haha I'd suggest Pelosi and Schumer but i'd be afraid of them getting pushed over.

Looks like it will need a name sooner rather than later, as it heads to the Development Permit Board on May 27.

no way the address stays 1444 Alberni either.

If they wanted to reference NYC, they should just use the address as they do with most luxury towers in Manhattan. (Maybe not 1444 as referenced above).

It's funny how supposedly expensive, 'sophisticated' and 'world class' our downtown residential market is but most Van developers still resort to cheap, gimmicky project names to get pre-sales, rather than simply the address (despite always talking about how exclusive the addresses are).

so when are we going to change the title of this thread to reflect the new address? i knew it would never stay 1444 once it started progressing.

so i am wondering, what has happened to these? they first broke in 2017, and its ~3yrs later and it seems nothing has come about.

can it really take over 3 years for a development? that seems so excessive.

Dropped a year ago. Like 1515 Alberni, the project wasn't offered for sale. Most likely the developer will wait least until there's some sort of market for high-end condos - your guess is as good as anybody else's how long that might be (if ever).
