A demo permit was filed today for the restaurant on site:

Maiko sushi will be missed but I look forward to this tower more then I will miss Maiko. Great lunch menu

This will probably be the fastest-rising tower in the city. It's only 73' wide and the site is only a quarter block to begin with. That's a 1:10.5 slenderness ratio.

Any speculation that this one may be in danger given the pandemic and economic slowdown?

I think this one is good because it is mostly residential, and the office was largely consumed by a Bank which is probably providing some financing. But the speculative office towers (which is most of them) are probably delayed to say the least. Hotels are on ventilators.

Excited for density and height, but still very frustrated to be losing retail and restaurants that lean more casual for restaurants and retails that undoubtedly end up being more expensive with higher property taxes.

I know that this is a self-resolving issue over time as there is more infill, density, and restaurant space to fill in but wish the council would either mandate stronger protections for retail/restaurants that are knocked down to make sure they're replaced with something equivalent-ish, or just mandated far more retail/restaurant space + buried garages so this problem is offset by market forces over time.

I agree but would also add entertainment/music venues as well.

New elevations were released for AULCC tonight. A little estimating is needed, but the height of the west elevation is about 774'. That's 3' more than we had it listed at.

The elevations are on pages 35 and 36 of the site plan:

I expect the Hobby Building and the State of Texas parking garage will go on the block sooner rather than later, maybe even as soon as next session. The State is going to be in need of funds, and selling off valuable real estate is one way to plug the budget gap.

My bet is we'll see plans for either/both of those sites by 2025, if not earth turned by then. I wish I could put a similar bet on the PO site, but man, who knows with that one.

EDIT: Also: damn, I love the Republic.

Looks like it's either been refined since we saw the 3d printed model or that the earlier model wasn't as detailed with the curves and angles -- either way IMO an improvement

I didn't even notice that BBVA is also wedge-shaped like 6xGuad is. They will compliment each other quite well I think.

When this and 6X are up, (especially if Republic is built), our skyline will look tall and pretty massive. Our skyline will actually be competitive, and probably slightly larger than those like Denver, Minneapolis, Charlotte, and even Boston.

How many cities in the US actually have 3 or more 700+ ft. towers? NYC, LA, CHI, HOU, DAL, PHI, MIA, SF, ATL, SEA, MIN... Who else? Thats quite a list to be up there with!
