I wholeheartedly agree it's admirable that it wasn't built on top of a parking podium, but to me these pics show that the lower portion of the tower looks like a different building. I could really imagine that it's a midrise right next to the tower. The upper portion (sans the hideous top) bears some resemblance to the beautiful verticality of the Empire State Building.

too bad that up close the base ruins views, and from a distance the clunky value engineered top ruins the composition

This piece of shit only shows how good John Hancock center really is. Even Water Tower Place looks like an amazing piece of residential (upper floors) architecture in comparison.

Slinging another steaming turd at our already battered eyeballs by cheaping out on the eight corner spires: a fitting grand finale by LaGrange and the development crew. Congratulations to you all, you've actually managed to get me to ponder whether or not your 700ft tall building is an improvement over the 7-11 it replaced - since after all, the 7-11 at least represented the possibility for a grand future redevelopment, stimulating the imagination. The Elysian, as they say, leaves little to the imagination.

Ultimately, Elysian is an improvement, I think (that 7-11 really, really sucked); but I shouldn't even have to ponder this.

^Wow, now tell us what you really think guys, lol. This tower does have much to lament. The fez rooftop is awkward & clumsy. However, I do like those top, black balcony structures... for some reason those work for me.

Living right around the corner from this building, I can honestly say that the 7-11 did more for me than the building's circular driveway (which takes up the better part of the street front) or Marc Jacobs store. With that said, this building is quite fun to look at.
