Those Atlas 747s flew right over my house, I suspect to pick up cargo from the MotoGP. You could only imagine how much I fanboyed over them as they roared above me to the airport. I tried to get some pics, but my phone was frozen for a bit and focused on the windows before I was able to get good shots, so they're tiny on my phone. A third one is coming tonight.

I think Samsung opened their first Austin fab in 1996 or 1997, but you are right about the $13Billion plus investment in Austin. The $4 billion figure I incorrectly used was just the estimated cost of the 2010 or 2011 expansion of their multi-billion dollar 2007 chip facility. There must be a lot of back and forth between Austin and Korea as well as a substantial air freight component. I would imagine that right now most of that passenger business is going on AA or KE via DFW. Does anybody know the exact figures for Austin-Seoul passenger traffic.

Yes, you are correct. Sorry for the typo. Samsung's first FAB in Austin opened in 1997.

I have recently found Richard Moya Park and was wondering if its good for spotting 35L arrivals?

Also, do you guys know about new Southwest flights being announced? A recent Southwest email sent to customers reads "We're serving up a double dose of Lone Star love in celebration of even more new nonstop service from Austin" In December SWA announced new flights to Orange County, St. Louis, and Portland, so it is a bit confusing whether the email is reffering to those flights or even more new flights being announced! To me it looks like they will announce even more flights, what do you guys think?

I wouldn't be suprised if they announce more direct routes this year. There was a news story that came out at the beginning of the year that the spokesperson for ABIA said that several new routes will be announced this year. Southwest seems like it would be one of the carriers that would add more routes.

I used to go to Richard Moya park years ago but apart from a few planes flying over, I never considered it an ideal location for plane spotting but maybe there's an area in the park that has some good vantage points.

I think "double dose" is referring to the new service to Orange County and St. Louis - both of which start on June 28.

2. Since when does anything ever happen on schedule in this city? We may be the fastest growing city in the U.S. but our municipal government moves at a snail's pace.

Realistically, they'd use a 789 on the route. By the time such a route is launched, they should be ready to fly. Plus I noticed Korean air doesn't cram a lot of seats on their planes (a332s can seat more than the 217 seats configuration of KE, for example), so I wouldn't expect a huge gap to fill.

Although a 789 would be as big as an a333, and their a333s seat 276, which is only 19 fewer than the standard 3-class configuration.

Another thing to consider...Negotiations could still be ongoing and if I am not mistaken, KE (or any airline trying to establish a new international route to and from a U.S. city) must obtain clearance from the U.S. government prior to securing a new route (let alone any respective foreign government).

I do not believe that anyone said a KE announcement was eminent. KE may not even be the focus of "the announcement," as the actual purpose of said release was not identified...it was rumored to be a KE PR release.

As cool and awesome it would be to have KE begin service from ABIA, I will wait patiently.

KE flying from ABIA to Seoul would be HUGE. Maybe too HUGE for AUS at this time. I hope not.

I'll be shocked if AUS gets a KE route.... or any trans ocean route this year. Y'all aren't filling the BA route more than about 80% on average first off. That, plus Houston JUST got its China, Japan and Korea routes (relatively speaking). Not trying to be a Debbie Downer for y'all, just sayin.

Well how much did we know about a possible transatlantic flight before British Airways announced it?

Funny, I've been here for a while before creating an account (since the construction of 360), and I did read upon an article somewhere saying Austin wanted to secure a transatlantic flight "before 2015"...then some user mentioned "give us London!" The first thought that came to mind when I saw that BA announcement was that comment in the quotes. Shoot me a "cool story, bro" :p.
