Interesting. So the eastern part is aiming for 2032 completion - I assume the western part is a few years earlier then?

Also - MTO has on the Ontario Highways program identified "Intersection improvements" at Highway 6 / Greens Rd in Caledonia for this year. Do you know if that's a roundabout or adding double left queues for Greens Rd? I know that intersection backs up, particularly during the summer.

I'm not sure what is planned for the Green Road intersection. I'd be inclined to think that it's just, as you say, a double left turn lane or other signal improvements.

Once they post a contract number, I'll probably be able to find out more specifics.

View looking easterly along Hwy 17 south of Sudbury where Hwy 17 crosses Junction Creek. This bridge is located at the eastern end of the divided highway west of Sudbury, and is set to be replaced starting in 2026 or 2027.

who is responsible for cleaning up our highways and how frequent do they do it? the highways across the GTA are filthy... the 410, 401 & 403 have debris and litter all over.. particularly noticeable around the exits.. but all throughout as well... along the sides of the roads, on the grass... so much garbage. it's embarrassing. people are so gross.. anyway, just curious if they get cleaned frequently, b/c any outsider looking at it would think we're in a third world country.

It happens every spring after the snowmelt. Takes a few months to clean up and for plant growth to cover it up.

Two views looking south along Highway 6 (the Hanlon Expressway) towards the future Wellington Road 34 overpass and Highway 401 interchange south of Guelph. A new mid-block interchange opened north of Wellington Road 34 and Laird Road last autumn, and work is ongoing to construct a new overpass that will carry through Wellington Road 34 traffic over Hwy 6:

Looking good. With the new interchange open, the Hanlon at least finally brings a full freeway connection from Guelph down to the 401.

Do you know if MTO plans on increasing the speed limit on the stretch following completion? It would be rather ridiculous if it's still 80km/h given that it will be a continuous freeway for about 8km.

O.P.P. doesn’t have a detachment in Guelph. It’ll have to respond from Cambridge and/or from Rockwood. As long as Guelph Police isn’t too active, people can get away with some speed on that freeway.

The speed limit on the Hanlon will definitely eventually be raised, but I'm not sure they will do so in the interim phase until more interchanges are constructed in Guelph.

There will be more speed limits phased in over time. More of the 401 will be raised to 110. I'm not sure what the plans are for this summer, but certainly more limits will go up over the next couple of years.

I would expect Highway 7/8 west of Kitchener to be increased at some point in the future as well, though that might wait until more sections of the 400-series are raised to 110.

Photos of the 407 looking both east and west from Dixie Road in Brampton:

https://www.asphaltplanet.ca/ON/hwy_407-409_images/407_cl_48_west_c_Apr25_42x28.jpg

During the summer of 2024, numerous concrete panels were replaced in the vicinity of Dixie Road as part of a pavement rehabilitation project. When originally constructed, the design life of the concrete pavement along the 407 was 30 years, to be surfaced with asphalt after 20 years.

The concrete pavement along much of the 407 is now 25 years old.

Highway 403 Ancaster Hill

Will this section of 403 ever see three lanes each way? There's always congestion during rush hours.

I could see the province widen the section between the Linc ramps and Wilson St. The median is pretty wide, so there should be plenty of room for another lane in each direction.

For the stretch north of the Linc, it will eventually happen, but I think it will depend on whether there's a solution to widening the 403 along the escarpment and the timing of any widening of the Linc (which probably necessitates a rebuild of the interchange) EDIT: getting on the 403 Brantford-bound from the Linc is a frustrating experience, mainly because of the "double merge" one has to do (with vehicles in behind often accelerating fast and cutting right over and past those in front, plus some who are on the 403 already and use the merge lanes to try to skip ahead). Similarly, the 403 Hamilton-bound onto the Linc doesn't work all that well, since drivers have to get over to the left quite quickly to avoid the Mohawk/Golf Links/Stone Church exit while dodging vehicles coming from the opposite direction and Mohawk Rd. Ancaster looking to make that exit.

Ya between the Linc and Hwy 6 we should have had 6 lanes like 20 years ago. There's room on it to easily widen it by the look if it? Probably should be 8-laned for a bit now.

Another crunch point is the other end of the Linc/Red Hill where it meets the Niagara bound QEW. QEW narrows to 3 lanes, and then you have another 2-3 lanes from the Red Hill and other ramps that end right after?
