When did the tacky lettering go up on the side of Canada Place?

I know, I asked this a couple weeks ago and according to SpongeG, they were up in spring 2009!! I thought that was part of the recent Canada Place revitalization.

It was written by Bob Mackin. He been critizing Vanoc none stop since Vancouver won the Olympic bid. I was shocked when Vanoc give him the opportunity to be part of the torch relay. He accepted. Expect more negative Olympic related articles from this guy in the future.

There's something very wrong with the concept of media criticism for the sake of criticism...and what about doing things that may be good for the general public for once? Articles like this will only encourage vandalism to what is widely now considered as a national monument.

Hah. Could you imagine if they found out the VCC was sinking. That would be rich. I was just down there and some big shot looking Asian guy in a full fancy suit that looked like it cost the same as a car was being photographed with all the lights, etc. with his arms crossed menacingly and the VCC behind him. I wonder who he is. Did we sell it to the Chinese already ?

As for the "media" guy, the local (well, even National, International) media scene is more about whiney opinions than news now, and that's not media

I wouldn't be surprised if the VCC was actually sinking, considering the amount of materials they used plus the soil on the roof. Those steel beams they have are massive. And of course, there's the concrete.

There's a reason why YVR's terminal buildings are relatively light weight structures.



CBC used to report quality and non-sensationalized news....not anymore though. I've completely lost faith in the media.

Kind of hard for it to sink when it's sitting on hundreds of piles that are sitting on solid bedrock.

Removal of Canada Places sails begins in August and will not be complete until December, it will remain open during this time but the halls will be closed until work is completed.

The "Canada Place" sign was added as part of the east building revitalization that started in April 2009 to prepare for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games.
I took a photo of the east building on April 5, 2009 and it didn't have the sign. The new Convention Centre west building Open House event was held on that day.
Another photo I took 3 weeks later on April 26 already had the new sign installed.

well by the photos it looks like work is being done on the expansion joists between the 2 phases of the convention center>> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expansion_joint

The cauldron was rushed for Canada Day I believe I mentioned that it wouldn't be sealed in time, you need to wait 3wks to waterproof it, they didn't have the time, so they are doing it now.

Looks like they are redoing the expansion joint on the connection, many of the expansion joints in the immediate area are being worked on, strange as that one would be brand new.

Yes.. they are being replaced.

The Canada Place Roof is 25 years old and is due for replacement.
The outer roof fabric will be replaced with material of current technology. I read in some news articles that the new fabric coating will have some titanium content so it should last 3 to 4 decades.
Since the Canada Place Roof is considered a Canadian icon, the project is funded by the federal government’s Infrastructure Stimulus Fund.

As for the Cauldron pool, I hope the torch relay route map can be added to the pool floor. I have seen enough of the "ugly" pool floor.
