Feenie had to sell out. He's a good chef but terrible at the business side of things, he needed the money.

And while it would have been nice to have something inspiring and unique, this restaurant is HUGE and those things don't usually go together (except in Vegas). There was no way this wasn't going to be some sort of chain (or chain-backed) restaurant as there would be no way to foot the bill for the rent.

i would take cactus club out of any of those. however, i wouldn't have minded a boathouse being there. (if we were to only choose from established chains)

but like i said, there's nothing to stop the cactus club from putting a variant there. the cactus club that will be at english bay isn't exactly going to be a cactus club either as i recall.

Where is the new subway? Around the seawall part?
There is already a subway in Waterfront centre, but this one would be closer to me.

If I owned the subway at waterfront I'd be mad they're building one basically across the street. But as a customer, that subway usually has a line when I go, and this one is closer, so it's good for me.

It seems to me that the blue LED lamps along each side of the plaza (the ones with the black benches underneath) are never turned on anymore.

Here is a close-up photo of the new "high-quality" pool for the olympic cauldron: http://www.flickr.com/photos/yamagatacamille/4757720555/sizes/l/in/set-72157613334122630/

Here's my photo from the exact same angle, only now a security camera dangles underneath the cauldron.

Couldn't they have gotten a cheaper pole for that camera? I know it's Coal Harbor, and everything needs to be aesthetic, but erecting a giant 4 legged structure just to hide one camera from view seems wasteful and impractical.

At least it hides it. I actually didn't even notice it was there until I looked at the picture after.

They really couldn't have sticked the CCTV camera somewhere else?

I'm also not sure why 24 Hours found a need to write a half-page article about the CCTV camera...

Because its sensationalist drivel.

I do actually question the placement of the camera though, it emotes the completely wrong image we want to associate with the 2010 legacy.

And really, would it have been too hard to put it somewhere else??

I couldn't agree more.

We could all do our part and send the folks at the VCC a e-mail about our displeasure:

Can't they put / don't they already have cameras affixed to the roofs of either side pointing at the cauldron?
