This would look a little better if they kept some trees here. It looks horrible without any plants.
At least there is some front lawns and it's not all paved over in front of the houses.

That Markham shot is a little deceiving. Yeah the new suburbs aren't terribly attractive but that was clearly taken almost immediately after occupancy. Some of the driveways appear to be unpaved still, and there are no backyard fences. The sod was probably brand new. New neighbourhoods almost always have street trees too. Looks like they may have not been planted yet in the picture.

I've had dinner in the revolving restaurant a few times. I believe it recently closed (the restaurant).

Quite true. Also, places that look ugly from the sky often look much better at street level.

Those seas of rowhouses in Montreal that we all love on here, if we are completely honest, don't look particularly nice from the sky either.

This photo is very often used to accompany articles about faceless, nowheresville, suburban sprawl in the U.S.

Most people probably aren't even aware that it's in Canada. (Nor do they care really.)

Unfortunately, that's how most North American suburbs look like. Bland, depressing, soul-sucking. Since most suburban cities have more people working outside the city (the definition of a suburb), there seems to be little desire to create nice and practical living environments. Which is a shame really.

The only exceptions in North America are the older suburbs like Chicago's North Shore, cities on Long Island, or merged ex-suburbs like Forest Hill or Leaside in TO.

The Marriott Hotel, our second largest hotel. It opened as a Holiday Inn back in 1972 along with Place de Ville (PdV) II. It's connected to the PdV underground mall and therefore will have underground access to the Lyon O-Train Station.

Although that's not a great angle, the building is one of the few in the CBD with a distinctive top. I find that it adds a lot to the skyline. Clean-up the tower's façade and give re-face the podium, it wouldn't too bad.

I kind of like it. It's very retro and almost every city has something like it. Back in the day when you weren't fine dining unless the restaurant was spinning.

I stand corrected. It looks 40 years old. Wow Montreal just gets smacked in the face by these banks.

It's funny because I've heard some Calgarians on the forums waiting with baited breath for a big bank to move their HQ here. Seeing shit like that and what gets built in Toronto I say keep 'em!
