Behold Concordia's Fine Arts building. It looks like a 1970's soviet bunker, but its actually a 1920's elevated parkade.

shudder. And it about the most windswept place in the city, with the canyon effect of boul Rene-Levesque. Plenty of pigeon poo too.

I know this thread is mostly about ugly architecture but the ugliest thing in Vancouver right now is the oil spill in English Bay. It's being called a "relatively small oil spill" but it sure doesn't take much to spread over a huge area and mess things up.

Well the thread is called the Ugly Canada thread and not the Ugly Architecture thread. See previous examples like Nickelback, Chavril, St. Hubert Restaurants, the city of Laval...

More hideous suburbs of Calgary. I'm guessing this is from a newer one in the NW due to the lack of trees and general hillyness. Those rolling hills make for pretty natural vistas but butt ugly suburbs. You see every cookie cutter house for miles and there's no trees or anything to hide them.

^very similar vantage points, but somehow the newer Calgary shot is worse. Because they know better. Not saying that the St John's photo has grace (it has little of that).

So much ugly in one shot... Calgary's firehall 1 on 1st DT with a nameless commie block behind it.

calgary.ca

The funny thing is that bunker replaced this, though thankfully it's still standing today albeit as a Budget car rental place.

Also generally when they sell these homes they show them in renders like this.

Suburbanites are living in their own LaLa Land.

Luckily, the fine arts department will all go in the Grey Nun by 2020. So, this bunker can be blown up then.

So the iconic Chateau Lacombe in Edmonton is getting a nice little exterior redevelopment that is trying its hardest to screw itself up.

I've always liked the Chateau Lacombe in Edmonton and the Chateau Champlain (cheese grater) in Montreal. Awful attempts to modernize continue.
