R+D659 looks ready to start soon; Power Construction is on site, but I don't see any foundation equipment yet.

I have a question for those posting in the 680 N. Rush thread, complaining about the loss of open space in the neighborhood.

Where were you all yesterday when 505 N. State Street was approved by the Chicago Plan Commission? You bitched and moaned about the loss of open space in the neighborhood. That plaza gets used by many more people than the plaza at 65 E. Huron/680 N. Rush. Where were you all?

Some people are all talk and absolutely no action.

I love that project, it has a little bit of everything: smaller bungalows and larger two story single family homes, townhomes, two flats and mid-rise condos. I am hoping that with the construction of more mixed housing developments like this, people will be more accepting of mixing in higher density where it makes sense. The two mid-rises will be added to Emporis as low-rise buildings. They will both stand in at 75'-1" to the top of the parapet.

I'll give an amen here. That was a nice little pocket park that I've strolled through several times (not even a neighborhood resident); and furthermore it gives some very appropriate breathing room to the impressive AMA building to the north, allowing it to show off it's angled face and cutout hole. It's all the more frustrating that there's a surface parking lot of similar size literally accross the street.

The surface parking lot is set to be developed as well. I remember seeing a rendering of a small residential building (no more than 10 floors) with lackluster architecture to say the least.

BVic - the planned 505 building does not threaten their views!! The motives behind their "argument" were ultra-transparent from "hello"...

Is the design featured on Guajardo REC's website still the current design
for 505 State? I know this was pointed out some time back, but I still get a kick out of a couple of the interior renderings - it looks like somebody was doing a little pharmaceutical experimentation while putting these together...

It was approved. I spoke up AGAINST the project. I told the developers that they were taking a step backward in aesthetic quality. I also told them I was disappointed in them, especially since they were developing the modern sleek, 600 N. Fairbanks. Yes, the same developers who are building the Jahn beauty are also developing this schlop.

BVic, where do you find the agenda posted for the Plan Commission? I've scoured their website and never find the agenda in advance or the minutes available in a decent time interval....

Uno's is a Victorian house from the 1880s. I don't think caissons had been invented then. Also, Uno's interior spaces are very cramped for a modern restaurant, because of all the walls everywhere that are required to hold the ceiling up.

It makes sense that a restaurant on such a cramped site would choose to shift the loads to the perimeter and have it remain open in the center.

So when I went to work tonite at Unos I asked one of the construction workers how tall the building was to be. He said it was to be a restaurant, Flemmings as we know on the first floor, and the building was only going to be a few stories tall.

So the Mixed-Use Tower is 505 N State? There was also a Luxury Condominium Tower directly across from Lake Point Tower, is that the 500 N Lake Shore Drive project?

Isn't 600 Fairbanks a JV between Brixton and UR2? Perhaps it's really Ruttenburg at Brixton (he's the son of the top Belgravia guy I believe) who has the eye for design - maybe the UR2 people are a little slow on the uptake regarding aesthetics???

So I take it there were no additional renderings revealed at the meeting that show Catalyst in a better light?
