Yeah, I started to wonder about that when days passed and the top never went on

Other than the obviously terrible/enormous parking garage next to it, why is the Mini Me building so universally disliked? Genuinely curious, as I'm not that familiar with that building.

Considering that they just got the LD permit on January 19th, this seems like a fairly quick turn around to me.

Sometimes if it's just site demo/land disturbance they can be quick to mobilize on-site.

Applying for a DRI is not a permit whatsoever. It's like a pre-preliminary plan submission that has to be done before you can do anything because it will tell you how much of an impact your project will be making in regards to infrastructure/traffic/etc.

Yay 38 stories, I'm excited that this is Miami based Related Group first apartment tower in Atlanta and lord knows we can use another Whole Foods in midtown. It will look great when traveling on the connector.

It was a horrible wannabe to the beautifully designed Phillip Johnson IBM tower built in 1988.

It did try to cheaply copy the graceful elegant IBM Tower. And it got the proportions very wrong imo, the material is cheaper, and the top is a failure - painted wood (or something) vs the aged copper of the IBM. Johnson's original plan had 3 shorter complementary buildings surrounding IBM - it was very nice. Can anyone find a pic of that?

found it! i remember why i loved it so much

The details look printed on, not sculpted--reminds me of an Apple Maps 3D view. It's a horrible building and I'm sad that it will outlive all of us.

A bunch of building permits have been applied for recently for new townhomes in SW Atlanta (3905 Princeton Lakes Way) and south of the Edgewood retail complex (66 Moreland). It's good to see some density and housing options in development all around the city.

Also, Modera Morningside (at Piedmont and Cheshire Bridge) has already filed a building permit for phase II. Looks like a 5-story apartment building. Currently on the site is a Dunkin Donuts and another 1-story commercial building.

A couple of interesting re-zoning requests were submitted today. Anybody know more about these?
750 Glenwood Ave, mixed-use planned development. Currently the Atlanta Stockade, close to the Beltline and adjacent to the Fuqua development.
750 KALB ST SE, rezone to Mixed-use planned development / Beltline overlay. This is adjacent to the site above. Is something big planned here? Both filed by Urban Realty Partners.
1462 Memorial Dr SE, rezone to multi-family residential.
701 ATLANTA STUDENT MOVEMENT BLVD SW, rezone to General (multi-family) residential.

Also today, a permit to consolidate the properties at 45 8th St NE (corner of 8th and Cypress). Currently it's a cell tower.
And similarly, consolidation permit filed for 1400 west peachtree to be combined "into a single parcel to be redeveloped." I assume this is for this proposal.

It's parcel 14 00490001005. I assume it's being combined with 14 00490001004; both are owned by Verizon. Could be nothing, but consolidating certainly makes it easier for future redevelopment.
