All depending, of course, on pre-sales...

Aqua's core is now above middle Columbus, and the podium structure is just a few feet below.

I still don't understand why this building has so small floor heights. Residential towers like this one for example the Legacy at Millennium Park and the Park Tower have 71 and 67 floors respectively and Aqua with exactly same roof height has 83 floors !!! why ? Why are the floor to floor heights so small ?

Last edited by aluminum; Aug 22, 2007 at 5:25 PM. Reason: Changed floor plates to floor heights.

^ Don't you mean floor heights?

you're confusing terms there. "floor plate" refers to the physical size or area of a given floor, and in aqua's case the floor plates are on the large side for a residential tower. what you're talking about is "floor-to-floor height", and in that regard, aqua is on the shorter side when compared against some of its contemporaries, but with a ~10' floor to floor, that still leaves room for 9 foot ceilings, which are plenty tall to be comfortable, though not quite as spacious as some of the newer luxury towers with their 10'-11' ceilings.

Yes, my bad, sorry, I meant floor heights. And is this building completely residential ? No commercial (office) floors ?

9' is quite low for a luxury tower... 10'-11' is the norm and buildings that advertise high ceilings as a feature are typically 12'-14'. My walk-up apartment has 10.5' ceilings...

Part of it depends on the layout and the size of the rooms. You can probably get by with 9' ceilings as long as the rooms aren't too "deep" (i.e. don't extend too far into the interior of the building from the windows) and the windows are floor-to-ceiling, as is the case with Aqua. Then it's fine because you still get very ample natural light.

We'd all like it to have 10' or 11' ceilings...that would make it 900'-1000'ish and it would actually be visible from behind BCBS. Thats just not the case here.

What's the usual thickness for the concrete floors in these high rises?
