They should be at City Hall. Plenty of space.

Can't. Different treatment....double standards all around.

For instance, "white powder" is found all the time in DTES, Granville Street, etc.: no evac with high drama, but when it's at City Hall......

Definitely see good tax dollars at use here.

Vancouver delivery person stabbed in Chinatown by stranger: police

Posted Sep 12, 2022, 11:48AM PDT.
The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says a “violent and unprovoked stabbing” in Chinatown left a meal-delivery worker with life-threatening injuries Sunday night.

Police say the victim was locking his bike near Gore Avenue and East Pender Street around 6 p.m. when he was attacked from behind by someone he didn’t know.

The victim was a 22-year-old newcomer to Canada, according to the VPD.

“The victim suffered a number of stab wounds, including injuries to his chest and throat,” said Sgt. Steve Addison.

Despite suffering serious injuries, the victim was able to call 9-1-1 for help. Several witnesses also helped out and provided first aid until police arrived.

“We now expect him to pull through,” added Addison.

Vancouver police are also crediting witnesses for their help in identifying a suspect, who was arrested a short time later, in CRAB Park.

“Public safety is a shared responsibility, and we always encourage people to call police immediately if they see a crime in progress or a person in danger,” said Addison.

The 43-year-old suspect remains in custody.

As much as Stewart is really doing nothing (or at least directing city staff) to move this issue closer to some sort of a resolution. If the police start arresting people, the crown also has to do it's part. Eby is the Minister of the Attorney General and Minister responsible for Housing. He holds a lot of responsibility in this mess as well and no one is really going at him or challenging him on this record.

He isn't. He reliquished his cabinet post in July. Murray Rankin is Attorney General.

This makes me sick. Imagine immigrating from Afghanistan only to find the streets of Vancouver are more dangerous.

I was at Light Up Chinatown on the weekend. It was sad to see that despite all the efforts including spotlessly swept streets, the junkies slumped in doorways managed to find a way to ruin it. Or the guy repeatedly asking for handouts as his pants slowly fell down around his ankles.

Is it any wonder people don’t want to shop there?

In Calgary now and this city feels like a whole world away from the decay Vancouver is in. Although I see more rif-rafs here than before, this is in no way compared to the horrible situation our downtown is in. Downtown Calgary feels very safe with lots of security apparatus present on the streets: No street grafitti, stinky streets or busted doors of windows.

Calgary literally had a fatal assault last month, and another one the month before that. But of course, that's impossible, because Vancouver's allegedly the most dangerous city on the planet...

to all you people saying "things are just as safe as always" .... you are delusional and need to get out more.

this is a HILARIOUS example of how shitty things are in Vanshitty these days.

at the Home Depot on Terminal they are having so much trouble with Hobos stealing and causing problems in the parking lot that they as of 2 days ago have brought in THREE 24/7 SURVEILLANCE MACHINES to ring the store that they use on Construction sites .... police style blue lights flashing .... 24/7. real classy look. whats next ... Robocop on duty?

my photo below >>

Welcome to DETROIT... I mean Vanshitty folks. Thanks little Johnie Whoreagain for the safe environment.

I have never seen anything like this .... not in Detroit not in NYC ... not in LA .... not in SF, Not in Philly, Not in Miami, not in Seattle ..... only in Vanshitty!

Those are quite prevalent in Bellingham - various mall/supermarket/store parking lots have them.

Also of note Seattle has joined Portland and Chicago (cities recently visited - portland is the closest to the situation here) is armed security guards at the doors of certain stores in the downtown area.

I am surprised some business in Vancouver have not worked with off duty officers or armored car carriers to have armed security guards as well (although I am not sure about what is allowed legislatively here).

FYI for those interested. DailyHive says they've verified it as legit:

Hundreds of donations pour in for 22-year-old Vancouver stabbing victim

A GoFundMe fundraiser has surpassed its goal, raising money for a 22-year-old newcomer to Vancouver who was the victim of an unprovoked stabbing on September 11.

The Vancouver Police Department said a suspect was charged in the aftermath of the incident, which left the victim with life-threatening injuries. Thankfully, he is expected to recover.

The fundraiser was started by Klara McCallum, a fourth-level nursing student at Sprott Shaw College, who claims she provided first aid to the victim after the attack...

Well, anyone who has insurance will end up paying for such senseless acts. We should have a system where the perpetrator pays for the damages he/she does, plus more. Hence a work camp is a good idea: better that than having him/her take a penal vacation before being let out to commit more crimes.

It will just make Home Depot items cost more. Would hobos end up taking this CCTV camera pole as well?

You'll be surprised how much more pleasant Calgary's downtown is these days compared to Vanshitty. No litter, hardly any busted windows/doors, no tagging...the place is just spic and span. Sure, there are homelessness and drug addiction issues, especially around City Hall and East Village neighbourhoods, but nothing compared to Granville Street or DTES. We do have the worst ghettos in this country.

Literally walked down Granville Street on Tuesday - it was just like any other sidewalk in any other Canadian downtown. Even stopped and listened to a busker. According to you and the other sensationalists, I and all the other hundreds of pedestrians in the area should currently be in the ER for concussions, multiple stab wounds and missing limbs.
