Jeez, yah you're right, I bet they didn't consider the fact that there will be children in a childrens' water park. You'd better notify someone.

^ Last time I checked this was a SASKATOON CONSTRUCTION thread? The bigger the project list - the better! Great Work!

Cameco "tower"

I know someone that works at Cameco head office, and IF they were to contsruct a new building downtown, he indicated it likely would only be around 8 to 10 floors (depending on the footprint). This hardly seems to me to fit everyone's expectations(hopes) of a bright new skyscraper for Saskatoon.

He also indicated Cameco had aquired some adjacent land to their current site with plans to build some 'satelite' office space. Not sure this is the kind of action a company would be taking if it was seriously considering a move. I guess this could be a temporary fix to their 'overcrowding issues', as it will take some time before an office could open downtown IF that is what Cameco decides to do.

Hope they do consider downtown and that a RiverLanding location is not a dealbreaker. I guess even if the building is 8 to 10 stories, that doesn't prevent it from being an architectural show piece for Saskatoon (just won't 'add' anything to the skyline)

8 to 10 would be better somewhere else downtown, I am sure River Landing will attract a quality tall building. Things have changed since the original call for proposals, and I think we will actually see some decent proposals put forth.

I would have thought Cameco could do more than an 8 - 10. I was thinking 15 - 20

In other news, the former Cineplex Odeon site is well on its way to being downtown Saskatoon's newest surface parking lagoon. Anyone else excited about all the new parking spaces around our dynamic core?

I wonder when construction will start on this site, would be nice to have a crane up this year.

Meridian site update:

Meridian has recently completed the purchase of the historic King George Hotel in downtown Saskatoon. Located at the corner of 23rd and 2nd Avenue this building will be extensively renovated and converted with a diverse use consisting of retail on the main floor, office tenants on the second and luxury residential condominiums above. If you are interested in being located at one of Saskatoon’s up and coming corners please contact us regarding leasing inquiries.

WHOA Stewie seems to me you havent posted for ages!! Where have you been?

^As for the 8-10 stories expected for Cameco: I thought that Cameco wasnt going to build? I thought they'd get a developper to pitch something to them? ...so if the developper were designing the building could they not stick Cameco in 10 of the floors and lease other floors as office space or develop condos? I dont see why the building that Cameco will be in couldnt be 20-30 stories..

ahhhhhh.... I got ya. The 8 - 10 thing is very disappointing. Almost as disappointing as all of the cancelled projects of late.

Country, I think you are absolutely right. Although my 'source' talked about Cameco only needing possibly 8 to 10 stories, it is also true that the CEO/Pres of Cameco indicated they are not into real estate development and as such, would not build their own building.

So, this absolutely leaves the option open of a developer building a super cool 20 storey building and leasing however many floors that Cameco feels they need. Again, I just hope that whatever is built for Cameco (if anything) that it befits a World Headquarters!

On another topic, does anyone know if there is there a link to Meridian Developers plans for the King George??? I missed out on downtown condos in the Riverfront property by waiting for actual construction, so if they are appropriate, I would love to find out more about the potential condos in the King George! My wife and I are considering a move downtown, but have not seen anything that interets us (ie. lack of riverfront/downtown/broadway areas properties!)

Your best bet is likely to email them directly. I doubt they will show you any plans, but they might give you a hint about what they're planning.
