When will this be considered site prep? Are we still waiting for approval?

This was covered in a previous post. The City is requiring them to use 92 Red River as the address during the permitting process. They can post signs or whatever with any other name that they want.

I'll also add that the Waller Creek Tower name seems to have been discarded. That was the name given to this project during the initial design competition.

The name change is for the best. Every time I hear or read the name Waller Creek I think of the bums I'd see bathing in the creek even 30 years ago. Red River isn't much better as it separates Texas from our mortal enemies.

Not sure what you mean. Site prep is happening now. But site prep doesn't always mean an official groundbreaking. The site plan revision is not approved yet.

I made a post a while back that an argument could be made for a status of proposed, demo or site prep. Nothing has changed since then, but I think as soon as it is approved, we can skip the approved status and go right to a site prep status. The site plan is at the point of being approved any day now from what I can tell. That will be a good day.

This will be epic, for any city that's not NYC, Chicago, or maybe LA. Still extremely hard to believe its happening here in Austin. Should bring up comparisons to all the other cities in the US.

I think the closest comparison is Philadelphia.

^I've been thinking that for a while, but less so because of our bulk or height, and more because of the geography of Philly in relation to the river. That view there reminds me so much of the view northwest along Town Lake. They even have a boardwalk.

Philadelphia currently has 2 proposed supertalls. But where it currently stands if Austin has every current proposal built, it will definitely be very comparable to Philadelphia, which is hard to believe.

Both of those proposals date as far back as 2016 (if I'm correct). And were part of two major redevelopment projects with a combined value of well over $10 billion.
Where do they actually stand today?

I never would have imagined Austin would have a subway either. Or that we'd have one supertall proposal that was actually serious. The main thing is can all of these get funding and is there enough demand. That they're even suggesting these projects probably means there is. We also think a lot about do we have enough demand in Austin for this stuff, but with the right kind of projects, transportation, and amenities, demand in Austin won't matter. We'll start attracting companies from elsewhere who would have liked to be here previously but couldn't because we didn't have what they needed. I also think we need to keep an eye on our convention center and the airport and make improvements there. That will attract more business and bring eyeballs here to see what we have. I still hear people saying our airport is too small, and these are non-Austinites saying it.

The CC and airport expansions are key for Austin. As an Uber driver I hear all the time how small the airport is and it surprises people. Although I don't follow the ABIA updates in the transportation thread on this site I believe it's supposed to double its gates to 60+ in five years so that's a start.

Weren’t we supposed to become Philadelphia-sized by 2040? 4M total population in the metro?

Would also be nice to get some art and science. A world-class aquarium, for example, would make for an excellent weekend getaway for families, and have great educational value as well. Similarly, we're severely lacking in museums IMO.
