I've been slacking on updates. Let's blame it on the fact that I live 100 miles away.

There is a ~ $55 million downtown development underway that includes a mixed-use, 127-unit apartment complex, a parking deck, and some infrastructure upgrades. The 362-space parking deck is located at the northeast corner of Lincolnway and Morgan Boulevard, with the apartments being located across the instersection on the northwest corner. Both structures broke ground last year. The garage is scheduled to wrap up at the end of the year, with The Linc shortly after. This will extend the density of downtown further east along Lincolnway, replacing a surface lot and a suburbany-style restaurant building called Round the Clock. More info here.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) - Fort Wayne is the 83rd largest city in the U.S. according to the U.S. Census Bureau and the fastest-growing large city in the Midwest. The city population has grown 2.12 percent since 2020, totaling the number of residents in 2023 at 269,994. Director of Community Research at Purdue Fort Wayne Rachel Blakeman says this is a direct reflection of city development.

"Fort Wayne had the greatest growth of any midwestern city in the 100 largest cities and so we can really think about that as being a vote of confidence in the direction that Fort Wayne is going," said Blakeman...

The $60 million East Terminal Expansion at FWA is well under construction now -

The new TSA Checkpoint (the exiting checkpoint will be pushed back for more queuing space and outbound passengers will flow up into the new Grand Hall) -

Demolition of the former Gates 1-4 (Regional Hold) and restaurant / coffee shop area -

Steel framing at the new Gate 2 area (at the far east end of the terminal building). Space is also being provided for a permanent Gate 1 in the future -

Top of the new elevator and stairs for passengers coming through TSA and up into the gate area. This will open into the Grand Hall near Gates 3 and 4, as well as the new restaurant -

A new balcony area where passengers will be able to exit the terminal building and view the airfield from the secure side -

The new Grand Hall, featuring raised ceilings and floor to ceiling windows. This will include Gate 4 and it will flow into the restaurant and retail space and down into the existing Gates 5-10 and Gates 2 and 3 -

Hi and happy 2025 - just a quick little plug that I started a new general development thread for the Greater Lafayette area. Just trying to get a little more coverage in the great state of Indiana, and Lafayette / West-Lafayette doesn't quite fall within the Northern Indiana or Indianapolis region. There is a quite a lot happening in this small college town / region. I hope you will check out this nascent thread and contribute to it!

Michigan City -

A pretty substantial development is underway in Michigan City, adjacent to the South Shore Line. "The Franklin" is a 12-story, $101 million apartment high-rise currently under construction at 11th & Franklin -

12-story, $101 million Franklin Street tower starting to go vertical in downtown Michigan City

Downtown Michigan City's skyline is starting to rise. The 12-story, $101 million Franklin at 11th Street Station building is now going vertical, with more high-rises on the way. The new mixed-use transit-oriented development and parking garage will span 431,693 square feet with the new South Shore Line station at Franklin and 11th Streets.

"We're pouring the foundation at the train station," Michigan City Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch said. "The parking garage is about 90% complete."

Indianapolis-based Flaherty & Collins is building the 220-unit apartment building, which will include ground-floor retail. A commercial real estate agent is now leasing space to prospective tenants, which could include a coffee shop and grab-and-go restaurant for commuters hopping on the train...

This tower is reportedly one of just three recent high-rise housing projects within Indiana, and the only one located outside of downtown Indianapolis. As of now, the parking garage is substantially complete and the tower cores are set. The steel is beginning to rise -

Mishawaka -

I'm pretty late in posting about this, but a construction progress picture just popped up in my feeds -

Beacon Health is constructing an new Medical Office Building and Outpatient Center in downtown Mishawaka at the northeast corner of Lincoln Way East and Church Street (across from the Mishawaka Public Library). The $21.7 million, 25,500 SF facility will provide a range of healthcare services when it opens next year. While it's not super high-density development for a downtown core area, it does replace (3) underutilized commercial structures with a 2-story MOB that will serve the community well. More info here -
