The casino proposal maintaining the existing number of machines has already been approved to move. Wasn't this announced a few weeks back?

That was announced a couple of years back.

You are probably thinking about the recent announcement that Paragon and the province had reached a new deal, involving a smaller casino and a 99-year lease.

I drove by yesterday and they already have crane parts piled up on the parking lot. Strange, considering that the excavation hasn't even started yet.

the crane and parts are in the parking lot that is NOT ONE PACIFIC. ie on the south side of the Cambie Bridge Smithe Street Offramp. that's NOT One Pacific that's a future project and the site is being used as Concord Storage like they used to do beside the Plaza of Nations

Thanks for the information. I know it's not the same site, but the parts were stored behind the huge banner for this project, so I thought there might be a connection.

What will the neighbors and the neighborhood association think of the return of the Concord junkyard? They weren't happy before when it was down the street between their display suite and the Plaza of Nations.

Some high-resolution renders. The deck look very luxurious, but being outdoors, I am not sure how practical it is.

The One Pacific video is so pretentious. It doesn't suggest anything unique about the building other than that it will be targeting 25 to 35 year old wealthy singles who go on dates...

I see the parking lot is getting dug up.

It seems to be small areas in different locations around the site, so I suspect they are scraping the ground to see whats under the pavement. There may be some intriguing finds in that dirt, since it has been in use since the 1880s.

Other than a parking lot for BC Place, has anything else been built on the site since the days of rail yards and industrial buildings?

The development is too close to BC Place. Kinda reminds me of the SPECTRUM besides Rogers arena.

I disagree. Some buyers will appreciate the proximity to the stadium and easy access to events there. And for now it's the only ownership opportunity in new construction in that part of downtown...

Pre-sales began a couple months ago. One building is already sold out. Realtors are able to get clients in early before the general launch.

Anybody can go to the "vip" early sales if they have an email address.

Yup. But friends of developer, realtors who have a better relationship with the developer etc get in even earlier than the "vip" who entered their email address...just saying. Not much of a "grand opening" if more than 50% of the building is sold and only scraps are left.

This harks back to the concept of a plaza and market flanking the Smithe St. offramp with a market underneath.

It's really a marketing scheme for the Paragon Resort (3 towers), One Pacific (2 towers) and Colours (2 future towers).
Oddly, the 8th building is on a social housing site between Pacific and Expo Blvds.

The plan below shows that One Pacific has 2 podium levels of commercial (hopefully restaurant space, not office).
Hopefully, Colours will also have a generous amount of commercial space.

Massive False Creek development announced
It will include eight buildings
Anita Bathe October 2, 2013 3:27 pm

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s the largest development announced in Vancouver since infrastructure plans for the 2010 Games.
The ‘False Creek Central’ neighbourhood is a new billion-dollar plan just west of BC Place.
It will connect Marinaside, Coopers’ Park and Yaletown to a sports and entertainment district.
“[It] is a gateway development, it really is truly, as you enter downtown Vancouver from the south you pass over the Cambie Bridge and you’ll travel right through this neighbourhood, in fact right through a couple of curvilinear high profile buildings,” explains Concord Pacific‘s Vice President of Development Peter Webb.
He hopes it will get rid of Vancouver’s ‘no fun’ reputation. “That’s a big part of what Concord is trying to do here today by announcing a new neighbourhood community.”
It will include eight buildings with 90,000 square feet of amenities. That will include a public fitness and wellness club, restaurants and lounges, cafes, a market, a pharmacy, financial services and boutique retail.
A new bicycle and pedestrian route will also connect downtown Vancouver to the seawall and the Cambie Street bridge.

Render from the Vancouver Sun shows the casino on the left and One Pacific on the right.
There's a 2 storey "atrium" that should - hopefully - be an entrance to stores and restaurants in a 2 storey commercial podium.
Of course... there are condos on the next level up.

In retrospect, you'd think they would have done what Henderson did along Abbott St. with Paris Place at International Village
- step back the residential from the podium edge so that street noise, etc. do not impact the lowest units
(it also creates patios on the podium).

Artist concept of Smithe Street in the new False Creek Central district.
