The Vancouver Art Gallery North Plaza is going to be redesigned and we want to hear from you on this important public space in our city.
Drop by an open house to see the preliminary concept plan options for the open space to the north of the Art Gallery bounded by Hornby, Georgia and Howe streets.
Help us create a plaza that’s an inviting, dynamic space for the city that works effectively with the Art Gallery, Robson Square and the surrounding areas.
City staff and consultants will be on hand to answer questions and receive your feedback. An online survey will also be available starting October 1.
September 11, 2013 - The City has selected Nick Milkovich Architects (NMA) as the primary consultants for the Vancouver Art Gallery Plaza. Expressions of interest were received from 14 design teams.
From the 14 teams, three were selected to submit proposals.
The NMA team includes Hapa Collaborative, Matthew Soules Architecture, and Urban Forum Associates (UFA).
NMA designed the Roundhouse Turntable Plaza in 2012.
Hapa Collaborative designed the new Mid Main Park at 18th & Main;
Matthew Soules' most recent work in the area was the 2012 Pop Rocks installation on Robson Street; and
Lance Berelowitz of UFA is the author of Dream City, Vancouver and the Global Imagination.
BIV is also claiming that the tallest Burrard Gateway tower is only 47 floors, which is inconsistent with the last known revised application (that I am aware of), which maintains that the tallest tower is still 54 floors:

Massive False Creek development announced

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s the largest development announced in Vancouver since infrastructure plans for the 2010 Games.
The ‘False Creek Central’ neighbourhood is a new billion-dollar plan just west of BC Place.
It will connect Marinaside, Coopers’ Park and Yaletown to a sports and entertainment district.
“[It] is a gateway development, it really is truly, as you enter downtown Vancouver from the south you pass over the Cambie Bridge and you’ll travel right through this neighbourhood, in fact right through a couple of curvilinear high profile buildings,” explains Concord Pacific‘s Vice President of Development Peter Webb.
He hopes it will get rid of Vancouver’s ‘no fun’ reputation. “That’s a big part of what Concord is trying to do here today by announcing a new neighbourhood community.”
It will include eight buildings with 90,000 square feet of amenities. That will include a public fitness and wellness club, restaurants and lounges, cafes, a market, a pharmacy, financial services and boutique retail.
A new bicycle and pedestrian route will also connect downtown Vancouver to the seawall and the Cambie Street bridge.
Yeah, they better. Something in the neighbourhood needs to complement the Paragon Entertainment centre. It's just a pity that One Pacific has nothing of that sort.
It is strange that the city encourages the downtown neighbourhood around Granville bridge to have really tall buildings but I don't see a single building around this new Cambie bridge neighbourhood to be over 35 stories. Any particular reason?
