How does that impact the height of the building? There have been rumors it was going to be taller in the redesign but with building costs so high, I haven't held out much hope.

I am sure they will. I assume the one on the 14th street side is for the parking deck.

Redesign one made it taller and added office, but now it is back to the low 30s and no office, closer to what it was originally.

kind of surprising to hear that they removed the office component, considering how little has been built in midtown over the past few years. has the design changed much from what was originally released? (if you can say)

MARTA Developments

Glad to see Amanda Rhein is starting to push MARTA's TOD initiatives into the public eye - they've started posting projects on CoUrbanize now as well with updated plans and design concepts.

Keep in mind these projects are complicated real estate transactions and involve a lot more complexity when it comes to get the dirt moving on these, but they will provide some great infill developments directly adjacent to MARTA stations across the region.

Is this project underway? I haven't been out that way in a while but a friend told me there was work going on at this site.

I wonder why King Memorial isn't on that list. How long ago was that proposed?

It feels like we've been talking about these TODs for years, and nothing has happened yet.

Those were just the ones chosen to highlight. It's not an official MARTA website so it's not meant to reflect which ones are moving forward, etc. But these are very complex projects when it comes to all parties involved so it takes a lot of time just to get each one's "due diligence" together before construction actually starts. Lindbergh took over a decade and it's still being developed/expanded.

I'm still on the fence about a casino being built in Atlanta. 2 billion is A LOT of money though.

I am 100% behind it. Atlanta has done an excellent job attracting high tech white collar jobs, but not so much at the other end of the spectrum. This is why Atlanta leads the list of US cities in terms of wealth disparity.

Most importantly, Atlanta host over 35 million tourists annually. We are also the fourth largest convention city. Having another attraction downtown will bring in substantial tax revenues and add much needed entertainment options to downtown. This reason alone is why a casino in downtown will be successful whereas other cities have failed.

Heck, we're already strip club central. Might as well throw gambling into the mix and see what happens. (Legalize pot while we're at it?)

I'd say that there would be a growing support for it based upon a specific location (Gulch) rather than the Turner Field area. Also worth noting that on top of contributing to the HOPE scholarship funds some of the taxes should be earmarked for local transit/infrastructure projects as well.

100% agree....Especially when it comes from the the Conservative party that trumpets less government and believe the Liberals are the ones creating regulations that are killing job growth. F'en hypocrites!

Gambling is an effective means of wealth redistribution from lower classes to higher classes.

Putting a casino in the downtown area would be another move favoring tourists in the area, at the cost of the health of the residential neighborhood.

Have you seen the residential neighborhoods in the vicinity of the Gulch? I don't think anyone would ever use the word "health" to describe them. If anything, the added jobs may give them a path out of poverty.

They're smart. Midtown has one of the highest vacancy rates in the metro, particularly with Class A spaces (only Downtown and Norcorss/Duluth are worse). Aside from corporate headquarters and boutique incubator-type spaces I'd be surprised to see any new offices in Midtown for at least a few years. In fact, this may be wishful thinking since I find the design so hideous, but I wonder if that Portman computing center for Tech will end up smaller than planned. I know at one point they were even talking about an on-campus alternative. This doesn't seem like a good time to throw half a million square feet of "build it and they will come" office space on the market.

Tech has already agreed to be the lead tenant and will occupy half the office space.
