The aluminium exterior and the frosted balcony glass is going to change the looks of this building quite a bit from what it currently looks like. I hope it will only be for the better, but not 100% sure yet. Overall it looks so imposing and tall in real life. It is incredible what a difference it makes when a building cracks 150 meters in height.

Biked along the seawall today, and I couldn't resist taking a photo of it. It stands out quite a bit.

I agree.

Tucking a railing that close to a sliding door seems like a very cheap/easy way out for a project of this quality.

Incorporating a guardrail or safety system into sliding glass door would have been preferable, and realistic for a project of this quality.

EDIT: Don't mean to sound too critical - this building is still phenomenal.

The railing is my first complaint so far - very minimal one for a project this scale.

If they're only just now hitting the true square floors that would imply there are 7-8 more floors to go?

There may only be about 4 floors to go.

I count 49 floors (at the NW corner of the tower) - assuming it wasn't revised from this model:

Another awesome update, mcminsen. The last perspective captures the building at its most trippy angle.

Five more floors to go.

Yes, great update.

I really hope this tower (along with the Butterfly and a couple others to come) help show people that taller towers aren’t all the scary and instead of blocking the view actually become the view.

Of course, I wished this from the Shanghai-La and Trump, and despite both those towers being hugely symbolic of Vancouver’s skyline now (and I am sure more people appreciate them, at least passively, than dislike their presence) nothing much seems to have changed. This is always the strangest part to me, a big huff over lost views and shadows when a tall tower is proposed, after completed, can’t imagine the city without it...

That is model for the original proposal of 49 floors and the photo by Klazu you are referencing is out of date. The proposal was eventually increased to 52 floors. From my count, the top layer visible in mcminsen's photos, dated April 30th, is the ceiling of the 47th level. If that is right, there should be five more floors to go.

Thanks.
The model pic was pretty far back in the thread so I wasn't sure, but it was one of the only pics that showed a model to grade.

*****

So it doesn't look like the lowrise will span the alley (perpendicular to Beach), either.

Here’s a good status update from a Vancouver House structural engineer on LinkedIn. Roof slab will be poured on June 21st.
