so far we've seen two renderings of this building and conveniently neither one shows what this thing would look like from the street,
probably because if people understood how massive it is relative the rest of the neighborhood they would hate it

a building this size needs to be on the river like the cork factory, not on penn avenue
the design is nice but the location is ridiculous

also notice how both renderings show the building on the corner as having a flat roof but that is clearly not the case - it's a pitched roof
more sleight of hand to make the design "fit in"

I don't mind that design at all, honestly. At least not for the strip district. Certainly better than almost anything else I've seen from Desmone.

Looks like a section 8 project, but each year that goest by the young working class will have less and less, so I guess it is keeping with the young folks entering the work force with massive debt and slaves to the banking industry. Therefore, I suppose it is a good design considering. Enjoy the holiday.

Yeah, I think it actually looks like it will fit into the Strip quite well. It almost looks like they ripped the facades off a couple old industrial buildings as part of a radical re-use project.

Of course as we have discussed before, in general it would be great to add a building of that scale in that location, hopefully beginning the process of redefining that area into a mid-to-high-rise zone.

Agreed. If there's any area in Pittsburgh that's perfect for redevelopment into a mid-to-high-rise zone, it's the Strip District. Bring it on!

walnut capital's designs might not be the most attractive,
but at least when they get a buiilding permit they start construction

these vitmore guys aren't doing anything except blocking off a portion of south graham street

and check out the construction cost figure on the development review application - $14 million
try more like $25 million, minimum

They've excavated somewhat at least. I don't think the Emerald View Apartments have even done that yet.

Geez, what an odd place. You give an honest opinion of a building and all of a sudden you are a "troll". Too funny. I am mainly here to enjoy Evergrey's posts and if nothing else will just follow him around. Wonderful pictures and good comments from someone that seems to have real knowledge and a good eye.

Do people really like that building in the Strip, or are they just excited something with a few stories is going to be built? It just amazes me people are excited about something so cheaply built. Oh well.

Just enjoy the holidays. Don't worry, i won't voice any opinions on here much if at all.

Nice 2015 versus 2014 construction review from Building Pittsburgh:

Executive summary--overall residential was basically flat between 2014 and 2015, with detached declining a bit and multi-unit increasing a bit. Non-residential, in contrast, was up quite a bit, driven primarily by industrial.

I'll admit I am still struggling a bit with these mesh facades, but in this context it does make sense and I actually sorta like it. And FWIW, I don't see any corrugated metal . . .

Also, I continue to suspect those are two-story units in the shorter section, which would be cool if so and would probably add a lot to the interest and appeal of the building in person.
