I was one of the unlucky ones who procrastinated a bit and missed out on the opportunity to buy a condo along the riverbank in the building other posters have been referring to (RiverFront Condo's). When it was being built, there was a phone number on a small board in front of the site to contact for more information. I called and had information sent to me. ALL the units were already sold!!

Since then, I have been looking for a mid-end condo (around $300k) in the Broadway or downtown area close to river or with river views. Let me tell you, there is nothing!! It is very frustrating that local developers cannot see the potential for buyers such as myself.

So PLEASE Coldrsx from Edmonton, do your best to convince your Boss to build here! How about putting in a bid for RiverLanding area development for a mixed use condo??

I think we have a gapping hole in our condo market here in Saskatoon. There seems to be lots for seniors & lots of future slum housing in the 'burbs (that's what I think of those cheap townhouses) but nothing for professionals in their 20s / 30s / 40s that want to live in an urban environment. If I had some coin, I'd love to capitalize on that market. Typically, that age segment has moved to Alberta but I think it's a growing market.

Don't get too excited about the Extra Foods site downtown. The outside wall of the School Board building (old Eaton's store) needs some remedial work below grade as water is seeping in. I've heard about a mixed use retail / residential development on the site but nothing more substantial than speculation & rumour.

I was checking out interior renderings for the new STC Bus Depot and Head Office on Broad St. in the Regina thread.
I was just wondering if anyone has heard anything about a new bus depot coming down the pipes for Saskatoon? I seem to remember reading that along with the 25th Street extension and the City's plans for the Warehouse District, there were also plans to replace the current 23rd Street eyesore with something new.
Seeing as the STC's depot here in Saskatoon is getting old and is ugly as sin I should think we may get a new one in the near future. Not only that, but in this city, uttering "the bus depot" has some very negative connotations. I remember that being the first place my mom warned me about when I was young as we drove down 23rd past it: "Never hang around here... this is a very bad part of town."

Besides, with Air Canada's despicable service to Saskatoon, perhaps newcomers and expats might choose the bus to get to our booming city instead? That's a lot easier than runnin' back to Saskatoon

I believe the re-locaiton the city was referring to was the city run transit systems downtown hub on 23rd street b/w 3rd and 2nd avenues, not the STC facility. Although, I couldn't agree with you more that the STC facility could use some major updating! Even better, move it out of the 'warehouse disctrict' to further enhance the attractability for people considering living in the warehouse area. Only question is, where do you move the STC depot to?? Maybe beside our "user friendly located" Via rail facility on the outskirts of the city hidden behind the Montgomery subdivision!

That is another transportation link that needs attention from our city councilors. Talk about an univiting place to go. Also, anyone considering taking the train into or out of Saskatoon has to be ready to arrive and depart in the middle of the night/morning. Too bad we couldn't get a train schedule that could take us to Edmonton or Calgary during daylight hours.

Hi all, I recently moved from Edmonton to Saskatoon. Wow, what a beautiful and vibrant city. I really love the place, I mean high living standard, low living cost, what's not to love about Saskatoon? A few of friends are also planning on moving to Saskatoon from various locations in Alberta. We are all hoping that things will get better and better in Saskatoon.

Glad to see that some of you have been able to look past that to this wonderful province. We have lots to offer you.

Thanks prairieguy you're right, the reference was to the city bus mall. I always thought that a new STC depot would be great on the corner of the future intersection of 25th and Idylwyld after they extend 25th.

As a recent homebuyer, I can tell you firsthand that the housing market in Saskatoon is completely nutso. We offered almost $50K over the asking price with no conditions, and just barely came out as the winning bid. Great if you're selling, but sucks if you're buying. Now that we're on the flip side, I hope we can sell our place for tens of thousands over our asking price.

I actually think that's a very low (okay, maybe not low... how about "reasonable") price for that place. There are a couple of other million dollar listings in the city, and both of them are smaller and have worse location (one is in Silverwood, the other Erindale).

Just curious.. what do you all think is the best value for housing in Saskatoon? I'm thinking that Mayfair really has potential to appreciate a lot. Was in the area last week and I was blown away by how nice some of the housing actually is -- beautiful old Victorian style houses, most very nicely kept. Since the area is on the border edges of the 'bad areas', I think it hasn't reached its potential yet.

Also when looking on MLS, I'm seeing houses over in the Parkridge area that are selling for near $300 K. I'm not sure I'd want to live that far out on the west side, but a couple years ago you'd never have seen prices like that there.

My wife and I live in MeadowGreen and values here have gone up about 75% in the last year. I have to say too that these west side communities offer nice quiet properties. When we first moved from Calgary last year we lived on the East side for about 3 months, and I have to say that Meadowgreen is quieter. We love it!

Looks like the 5th floor they are adding to the Bayside Lofts is coming along pretty well (appears as if framing is almost complete). We went to their open house about a month ago, and these top floor units will also feature a balcony, which none of the other units have (although they have 2 story floor to ceiling windows).

I had heard many rumours that this developer was in trouble and running out of money, but I think the rate at which it is now progressing will hopefully alleviate these fears.

Now if they just included a ground floor market/grocery store in that building, it would be the perfect addition to a revitalized downtown!

I just read Norm Fisher's blog (www.teamfisher.com), it looks like the housing market has started to level off somewhat. I hope the value doesn't come down, I just bought my house last month after I moved here from Edmonton. Does any one of you guys have some insiders information as to how long this housing boom is going to continue in Saskatoon?
