Uh oh. Don't look at Toronto/Windsor 7 day forecast compared to Montreal or you might just hang yourself.

The bullshit thing though. TWN is saying extended Polar Vortex after that. They like to hyperbole and are often just plain old wrong. Hope to fuck they are.

Beautiful day in my old stomping grounds of Tainan, Taiwan. I used to live here waaaay back in the day. It was my introduction to Asia, and holds a very special place in my heart.

27c and sun.

-6C and mostly cloudy in Moncton at 9 AM. Periods of snow later today with about 2 cm expected.

We will largely be escaping the snowmageddon in NS. This multi-day event may see 90-100 cm of snow in Cape Breton by Monday.

Wow... very blustery and snowy in Halifax this morning. I don't know how much snow is down so far, but there's quite a bit already and it's drifting and blowing around quite a bit.

EC still calling for an additional 20 - 30 cm for the Halifax region... and an additional 50 - 80 cm in Cape Breton!

Snowfall warning for Halifax:
Quote:
4:53 AM AST Saturday 3 February 2024

A prolonged period of snowfall is expected.

Locations: Central Nova Scotia.

Additional snowfall: 20 to 30 cm.

Time span: continuing until Monday.

Remarks: A low pressure system south of Nova Scotia will stall southeast of the province this weekend resulting in a prolonged period of snow. There will be a brief break in heavy snow overnight Saturday, before intensifying again on Sunday afternoon. The highest accumulations are expected during the day today. Snow will be wet and heavy, which could cause strain on utility lines.

Additionally, increasing northeasterly winds could result in reduced visibilities in blowing snow this weekend.

Snow will taper to flurries on Monday.
Hopefully we keep power on through this. NS Power is currently showing 32 active outages affecting 5100 customers on their outage map.

Won't be going anywhere today, as the driving will be treacherous. Google maps is showing yellow for traffic flow on most roads, which is usually slow but reasonable, and red on highway 118 and 102 through most of the route, up to Milford, which is agonizing in a winter storm - not worth going out on the highways unless it's an absolute must. City driving should be doable, but there will still be some people stuck or hitting stuff because they have crappy tires or are driving too aggressively for conditions. Walking won't be much more pleasant with the wind blowing snow in your face.

The link below shows a view of downtown Halifax on twitter... errr... X this morning:

Moncton is very definitely on the edge of the storm. I live in the west end of the city, and there are threatenings bands of cloud overhead, but also patches of blue sky. I was in Dieppe (east end) just an hour ago, and it was a very threatening overcast over there. You could tell it was probably snowing in Memramcook (about 20 km further east).

Cloudy and -2 at 11:30am. Will remain around this temperature all day.

Looks like this long-lasting storm will be mostly rain for St. John's, starting tomorrow. We will get a blast of snow Tuesday as the storm departs though, in the 15-25cm range.

Beautiful sunny day.

Spot the big ass bird perched above the creek. There is another photo below if anyone wants to take a stab at identifying it

Best photo I could get of it. It's not at full wing span here

All the while a couple of the native swans we were talking about a couple pages ago flew over head

Also saw what I think was a Heron.. and the usual suspects, Canadian Geese, ducks seagulls, etc.

And now I just saw a bird of prey and I do believe it was a bald eagle! I just needed to go to my backyard for a couple of minutes so didn't have my phone. I looked up and saw a big bird flying and it's head was white and had the perfect profile of a bald eagle. At least from my distant perspective. If this is the case it would be only the third time. First was Belwood outside of Guelph (two of them) and then Flamborough outside of Hamilton, where I saw it perch on a big branch, which snapped off when he pushed off and flew away. Was spectacular.

I mentioned a couple of days ago how the forecast showed the next 10 days being above zero and sunny. I said we'd be lucky if we got three. Two for two so far!

The storm has been downgraded for us. We're barely getting brushed with its eastern edge now - 10-20 cm of snow with lots of rain and drizzle throughout.

I'm not sure what the blue stuff is but I sure do like it!

Pretty sure it wasn't an owl. Owls usually have those big round heads and this guy didn't.

1 degree today in Windsor and sunny. 5.5 tomorrow mostly sunny with temperatures at the same mark though partly cloudy through Wednesday, with the exception of 4 on Monday. Thursday looks to be 11 through cloudy with overnight light showers into Friday morning with temperatures of 11.

Weather Underground a site created by U of M meteorologists I like to use. Unfortunately for my neighbors south of the border it seems to only formatted in imperial, if you can work with that.

This weather bomb looks like it will dump 60 cm (2 feet) on Halifax before this is done. Pray for Sydney.

A lot of snow has come down today in Halifax - much more to the east. There was some freezing rain in the mix this afternoon, as the cars developed a coating of ice and there was a crust on top of the snow. Even my shovel handles were icing up when I left one aside while using the other.

The wind picked up as it started to get dark, so I gave up without completely finishing the job as it was just too cold!

A glorious sunny afternoon just above freezing on the frozen, quiet and empty Silent Lake (Provincial Park)

There's a 15km hiking trail, I only did half of it as I got here too late

Other than 2 guys cross country skiing and 3 seniors snow showing, it was awesomely devoid of humans

Then I went to Bancroft
