Peachtree is probably the only street in this city people specifically seek to be on.
There is also 1180 Peachtree.

But, these are two new hotel brands to Midtown and this building is certainly better than the parking lot it replaces.

To me, redeveloping this shelter and putting an improved facility with improved oversight in place is more important to Midtown/Downtown than building a building of any height. I'd take fixing the problems that his shelter brings to the area over three new 800 foot tall buildings on Peachtree any day. The current facility is such a drag on the area that improving it will pay massive dividends in generating future development.

One Atlantic and 1180 Peachtree are most certainly "notable buildings". Additionally this was to be the new location for the Atlanta Symphony building at one time. I think people see the potential of the street regardless of its current state not unlike Midtown in general.

Yes, but neither has a 14th St address.

Looks sharp to me. Nice and urban like a big city hotel should be.

It seems like a no brainer to me that until the Pine St shelter is gone Midtown and Downtown will not connect developmentally.

Hopefully they can prevent whoever runs it from just opening a new one somewhere else and ruining another part of town. It is clear whoever runs its heart is in the right place, but they need to let people better at it run it.

What if they use a Thirteenth St address, will that work?

The hotel is awful. The advantage of the two similar projects (the 10th/Williams and 15th West Peachtree) is that they're both on postage stamp lots, well under an acre each. This lot is a full acre on 14th Street, big enough for a substantial mixed use development. At least they manage to get 300 rooms in there somehow--not too small a number.

http://whatnowatlanta.com/the-garage-to-...-new-square-on-fifth-atlanta-apartments/

Plans this week were filed for the meetings and events venue near Georgia Tech.
Square on Fifth Atlanta, the recently-competed 25-story mixed-use residential tower at 848 Spring Street NW, will soon be home to The Garage at Tech Square, a non-exclusive space for off-site meetings, as well as an event venue.

A building permit application was filed with City of Atlanta this week to buildout The Garage, a 9,000-square-foot venue available to both corporate partners and information centers near Tech Square who want access to a meeting space.

The Garage will also be available to residents of the Square on Fifth evenings and weekends.

Scott Henderson, owner of The Sandbox Crew, a social club for people who want to make connections at Tech Square, is opening The Garage.

It’s “an underground clubhouse for people creating the future of technology,” Henderson told What Now Atlanta (WNA) in a telephone conversation Wednesday.

Sandbox has partnered with student groups and various Georgia Tech organizations so that they can utilize the space as well. The goal of the Garage is to draw in people from different industries and expertise, who can then have real conversations with each other, connect and collaborate.

The soft-seating club atmosphere provides a stage and is designed to have the look and feel of a boiler room that was repurposed.

Upstairs from The Garage will be a public area for anyone in the neighborhood, and there are other parts of the building that can be rented out as well. Downstairs, half of the space will be a mezzanine and the entire west wall will be glass and steel, with five glass garage doors that open straight. There will also be a pedestrian alleyway for standalone events outdoors, which can then integrate with indoor events, too.

An estimated $850,000 will be spent constructing the space.

That's a truly splendid project that would unlock a whole new underdeveloped part of Midtown. Really hope it moves forward.
