If we're judging based on the actual award description (Most Valuable to his Team) then yes, he should get votes for the Hart. He's far and away the most valuable individual player to his team.

IIRC the last player to win the Hart on a non-playoff team was Lemieux in '88.

If Colorado makes the playoffs, the Hart is going to Mackinnon.

Oilers top three scoring:
McDavid - 39+60=99
Draisaitl - 24+43=67
RNH - 21+22=43

Avalanche top three scoring:
MacKinnon - 38+54=92
Rantanen - 27+53=80
Landeskog - 24+33=57

I'd argue that McDavid has been more valuable given that he is involved points-wise on 44.80% of Edmonton goals compared to MacKinnon's 38.50%. I would also argue that Colorado has far more support for MacKinnon (see: Rantanen, Landeskog, Barrie...) than McDavid has.

You are correct. Here are your four Hart winners not on playoff teams.

1941-42 / BRO Tommy Anderson
1953-54 / CHI Al Rollins
1958-59 / NYR Andy Bathgate
1987-88 / PIT Mario Lemieux

It certainly would defy the status quo.
If he somehow can win the Rocket Richard trophy for most goals, I think he gets the Hart.

I believe he has something like 23 goals in the last 27 games? Unreal
79 even strength points, only 15 PP points and 3 SH points

It's great to see such a tight race for the Art Ross, definitely am enjoying the increase in scoring this year, made for a fun season of stat watching!

MacKinnon has made his team contenders, though. McDavid hasn’t. I can’t see the gap in scoring that favours McD being impressive enough to overcome the team’s weak performance. Not that he would be a bad choice from my perspective; just an unlikely one by the actual voters.

Right now the Hart is a two horse race between McKinnon and Hall.

Next tier down is Kutcherov, Malkin, Ovechkin and Wheeler.

I'd put Bobrovsky in that discussion despite the fact that gaolies aren't usually in the running.

Hard to pick Kucherov from a team with Stamkos, good goaltending and Hedman to boot. He's not the MVP. He's important, but not like MacKinnon or Hall.

If you have to have five players on the ballot, who are they?

MacKinnon
Hall
Bobrovsky
Rinne
McDavid

My vote probably looks like Rinne, Hall/MacKinnon in a dead heat most days, Bobrovsky, McDavid

I'd also give some love to Stall for Minnesota and Fleury for Vegas, Kessel for the fiirst half of the season in Pittsburgh and Malkin for the rest (so Malkin since Pittsburgh wasn't a playoff team for the first half... )

^ I think if Colorado makes the playoffs - it's MacKinnon's pretty easily.

If they don't make the playoffs - then it's more debatable.

Hasn't felt like a goalie type Hart season to me. None of the goalies have really separated themselves from the pack.

That said, if I had to pick one goalie to be a Hart candidate, it's probably Hellebuyck.

Another building block... The NCAA's top scorer, Adam Gaudette signs with the Canucks today. Solid second line centre material.

I don't think anyone would ever accuse the Winnipeg fanbase of being bandwagon jumpers. In the history of our sports franchises (Jets 1.0, Jets 2.0 Moose 1.0, Moose 2.0, Bombers (a team that has not won a championship in my lifetime) Goldeyes, Bisons) we have shown continuous support, and moreso dedication and creativity in our fanship. To the point where every major sport we support, we are consistantly referred to as some of the best - if not the best fans in that said sport.

We are knowledgable and quiet, and don't feel the need to bark in a forum about how great we are, or how great our team is. Yes we are excited, we made the playoffs, which is a rarity for our franchise, and some of us are sharing that excitement with each other, no different than any other fanbase would.

In regards to when the last Leafs fan "posted" that? Common, don't slip to that level of ignorance. You are posting on a skyscraper forum, not a hockey forum. It is a well known running joke that ten games into every season that the Laughs preform well, they begin to plan the parade down Young street. It happens almost every year. So much so that my roommate here in BC, who is a Laughs fan, does it to laugh at himself. But that is what makes our love for this sport and our teams so fun. We dream big.

And why not? This year the Laughs are playing great, I'll admit that even if I do hate them. And so are the Jets. The Jets are set up in odds second to win the cup after Tampa. Does that mean I think they will win? No. But I want to be confident in my team, so much so that I was willing to bet on them over Nashville in the division and making it to the C.F. (20 bucks). I don't want to be blind to the fact that the odds are small, but as a fan it is my job to have hope when the talent is there, and to be loyal and faithful when it isn't.
There's no vitriol. Some of my best friends are idiots.

Now the game tonight - that's got me rummaging around for some of that stuff.

Thanks for posting that Logan I was just about to. Ya he got 30 goals and 60 points in only 38 games!

Buffalo beats the Leafs and Phoenix is leading Tampa Bay! Thank you from tank nation Vancouver haha!

Well that was a patgetic showing. Doesn't Buffalo want to protect their chance at a #1 draft pick?

I'd hate to see the outcome of a Sabres/Leafs playoff series...

Didn’t you losers just lose to the sabres lmfao. One of the worst teams in the nhl. Maybe you should just keep quiet. Least we clinched unlike you and your losing streak. Oh and for the entire season you been below the Jets in the standings. Just an FYI for you to ponder.

A 1 game losing streak? Well, the Jets have had 29 of those this season. Heck, a few times they even had multiple losing streaks in a row!
