I remembered reading there was a park expected and they are signed until 2053. So that gives us about 30 years and with the agreement there will be a waterfront park.

Good to hear. Should be able to come-up with an alternative within 30 years if need be. I have trust in the private sector on that. Less so if Government was dependent on the plant.

Excavation underway for Block?? I'm not sure. I cant seem to find a sitemap with everything labelled. It's adjacent to the mostly completed building.

Balcony glass is approaching the halfway mark. This building is really growing on me.

Thanks for sharing the pictures! It's been hard to follow progress working from home so it's nice to see your images.

I believe the block you're referring to is #11. Someone posted a site plan on page 41. There's also a render of what we should expect but I don't recall what page it's on. I don't think it's too far from this page.

My pleasure. I lurked here for far too long without contributing. Current situation has me walking more than ever and I'm happy to pitch in. The forum is only the sum of its parts.

Thanks for the referral to page 41.

Here's a more recent site plan - from the April 2021 One Planet Living report.

I'm kind of torn on this one. Not a fan of the beige brick. Maybe if the podium had been a different colour, like a more classic red. Really looks like a 70s industrial building (and I get that the podium IS an industrial building, basically). Some murals on the mostly blank faces might help.

So far, architectural speaking, i much prefer the buildings that have been built on the Ottawa side than the Gatineau side. Same thing can be said for the under construction tower on the ottawa side vs the U/C O II in gatineau just by looking at the renderings.

This is why I love the Zibi project so much. It is a great mix of retail, residential, and greenspace. Dream is doing a great job so far.

A great idea for the rock beachfront area would be a marble beach style.

I hope the path in that render doesn't actually end up being a concrete sidewalk with cross-lying strain-relief grooves. I'd rather see an asphalt MUP here.

Definitely wont be a MUP. This path leads to a staircase and they already planned another MUP behind that path

Probably planned as concrete to be more resilient to flooding. Same reason the path through the Billings Bridge underpass is concrete.

Ok makes sense now! Thanks guys! I didn't bother looking at the plan, it looked like the only path in the render.

Hmm it does look like a staircase. For some reason I thought it would be a wide enough concrete MUP.

Accessing river pathway from some parking entrance driveway? Seems like they didn't think this one through.

Global co-working giant Spaces opens Zibi Ottawa location

By: OBJ staff
Published: Jan 28, 2022 4:39pm EST

Ottawa’s Zibi development continues to take shape, with the world’s largest provider of co-working space officially opening a new location at the waterfront site.

Spaces, a division of Switzerland-based International Workplace Group, unveiled the 26,000-square-foot property, which is housed in a four-storey former paper mill on Chaudière Island, this month. It joins a 29,000-square-foot Spaces location that opened last year on the Gatineau side of the Zibi project in former industrial buildings just east of Eddy Street.

Spaces’ second Zibi site marks the company’s latest expansion in the National Capital Region. The firm opened its first Ottawa location on Slater Street in 2019, and parent company IWG also operates three other co-working spaces in the downtown core under the Regus banner.

Wayne Berger, who heads IWG’s operations in the Americas, says the company has seen surging demand for its offerings during the pandemic as more employers embrace a hybrid model that allows employees to work from home or occupy short-term office space as needed.

“The pandemic has sped up the shift away from the traditional office towards a more flexible approach to the world of work,” Berger said in a statement.

IWG says it plans to add five new Spaces locations totalling nearly 175,000 square feet to its Canadian footprint in early 2022, with additional openings slated for later in the year.

The mixed-use Zibi neighbourhood, located just west of downtown on both sides of the Ottawa River, is a multibillion-dollar partnership between Toronto-based developer Dream Unlimited and Ottawa’s Theia Partners.

The developers anticipate that between 400,000 and 600,000 square feet of new office, retail and residential space will be added to Zibi each year through 2027. When complete, the site is expected to house 5,000 residents and employ 6,000 people in more than a million square feet of space.

Dream has Block 7 listed to be available August 2023, I'd imagine they would be having to break ground pretty soon to meet that.

Any idea who the architect is?

Edit: Looks like it's this firm
